Goff was a bright light in 2013 and started as a freshman. Yet, and we know how good he is now, he made many mistakes as the starting QB that he didn't make in 2014. Can we expect Rosen to be any better than Jared was a frosh? I don't think so. In fact, I would be surprised if he even matches the Jared Goff of 2013.
I very much like to play freshman QB teams, so I'm with you 6bear6, especially when we're talking true freshman. That said, I don't think the Pac-10/12 ever saw a true freshman season as good as his predecessor - Brett Hundley. He had a yards per attempt of 7.8, TD to INT ratio of almost 3 and a completion percentage of nearly 67%. Nice stats, and for a true freshman, remarkable.
2012 was also Mora's first season in LA too. Now well-established and proven winners, with a top QB prospect in Rosen, I'm of the belief that we should not be surprised if Rosen does much better than most true freshman QBs, as did Hundley.
On another topic brought-up here, our D. Of note, in the Southern Cal game last season, our offense truly let us down in the first half. If someone would have said that Cal's D would get a safety and a very rare pick on Kessler in the first half, one would think that Cal would be in the game at halftime. Nope. Our offense sputtered against a bottom half Pac-12 pass D in the first half when our D was making a solid showing at times. Even for the whole game our D held the Trojans to a little over 2 yards on the ground. An historically bad pass D coupled with Kessler and Agholor was a bad recipe of course...
I honestly feel that we have a good shot against them in Berkeley in 2015.
