Cal's defense will prevent Cal from reaching the promised land.

13 in a row on Halloween...should be a fun Weekender!

really, that's the only concern. (and pass pro...)

as far as the streak goes...i stopped counting. every year, i hope to be pleasantly surprised. while i'd love to stick it to you d-bags, my more immediate concerns are clownstomping Furd & LA

Wait, are you predicting that Cal's defense will prevent something?

We do make for some strange bedfellows. LOL

I think offensively Cal should be able to put up points.

with last years defense we were 8 short of tie .. your confidence is tad bit over stated

you can admit this was the first time CAL came to play ... vs years prior

I suppose this typifies the "moral victory" mindset. The game was not nearly as close as the score suggested. But I do suppose that the observations of how Cal players seemed more "aggressive" and not quitting are positives that can make us feel better about our losing record against the condoms. "Next year is our year," we said last year. Alas, it is 2015. Now or never?

Go Bears.

Goff's confidence is overflowing right now. He was heard saying a few weeks ago that he expects Cal to be playing USC in the CCG this season.
True story.

I'll drink to that.

I don't think the example of an Elite 11 guy transferring because he couldn't beat an Elite 11 guy ends up making the Elite 11 look bad.

Disagree. When an elite 11 guy leaves school as a junior never having taken a single in game snap, that's not a good look for the Elite 11. When he gets beaten out by a true freshman that's even worse.

I guess you are a "win the 4th quarter" guy.

no i am stop being a doormat first guy ... CAL had not competed vs them in years vs last year that it that is all

many teams dont go from 1-11 to 8-4 ... usually there is pit stop in between that shows the team/program has gotten off the mat

i will assume by both of your answers you were happy about that 13' game vs sc

you dont go from nothing to everything you go from nothing to something ... then

Goff was a bright light in 2013 and started as a freshman. Yet, and we know how good he is now, he made many mistakes as the starting QB that he didn't make in 2014. Can we expect Rosen to be any better than Jared was a frosh? I don't think so. In fact, I would be surprised if he even matches the Jared Goff of 2013.

I very much like to play freshman QB teams, so I'm with you 6bear6, especially when we're talking true freshman. That said, I don't think the Pac-10/12 ever saw a true freshman season as good as his predecessor - Brett Hundley. He had a yards per attempt of 7.8, TD to INT ratio of almost 3 and a completion percentage of nearly 67%. Nice stats, and for a true freshman, remarkable.

2012 was also Mora's first season in LA too. Now well-established and proven winners, with a top QB prospect in Rosen, I'm of the belief that we should not be surprised if Rosen does much better than most true freshman QBs, as did Hundley.

On another topic brought-up here, our D. Of note, in the Southern Cal game last season, our offense truly let us down in the first half. If someone would have said that Cal's D would get a safety and a very rare pick on Kessler in the first half, one would think that Cal would be in the game at halftime. Nope. Our offense sputtered against a bottom half Pac-12 pass D in the first half when our D was making a solid showing at times. Even for the whole game our D held the Trojans to a little over 2 yards on the ground. An historically bad pass D coupled with Kessler and Agholor was a bad recipe of course...

I honestly feel that we have a good shot against them in Berkeley in 2015.

Hundley redshirted his true freshman year.

And JT beat him with Maynard in his R.Frosh year.

Of course, that game was at Memorial, where we should have beaten him again in his "Heisman" season last year. I think Rosen will probably be a better qb than Hundley was, but mainly because that bar is pretty damn low. And I think this year's game will be tough, but mainly because it's in LA where we struggle mightily.

Thanks for the correction oski003. My bad. I've made that mistake before actually, and with other QBs, I think b/c the redshirt year was under an old regime...

Completely agree about going from 1-11 to 8-4. However, if this staff doesn't start recruiting better (especially in So.Cal) they won't get there.

Hopefully Peeler gets down there a lot..

UCLA football: Defensive back Priest Willis to transfer (4*)
Quote:

Willis was a reserve for the Bruins the past two seasons. He appeared in 12 games, making one start, last season. He played in nine games as a freshman, mostly on special teams. Willis can redshirt this season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Something going on. Foreman and Willis. Possibly though just not getting past the guys above them. They've recruited A LOT of DBs over the past few years. The depth chart is bunched.

It's all about spin. Josh Rosen was just that good. Elite 11 one year doesn't mean you can't get beaten by another year's Elite 11. Obviously getting beat out by Neuheisal is a bad look but that's what you'd focus on rather than getting beat out by 5-star highly touted Josh Rosen.
