I keep meaning to go there, but haven't made it yet. Perhaps a non football saturday would be better, since it's always packed to the gills on gameday. Read a brief article from 2012 and it's apparently owned by the same person as strada, was formerly Adagia (a Mediterranean restaurant that I'd never heard of...), and has a full liquor license and bar.

I've gone multiple gamedays, both pre and post game and it's not too bad really. Easily 1/4 (maybe even 1/8th) the crowd that's in henrys. Much much much easier to get a drink. It's crowded for sure, but not too bad.

And for you stalkers out there, the last time I was there I got a table in the patio and Allison Stokke wound up at the table next to ours.

Berkeley Square in the 80's was awesome! What was it like in the early days before it became a punk rock bar?

I ate there a few times in the early 70's As I remember the bar was nice and the food was Italian. I think there was a "massage parlor" next door that gave more than just massages. :rollinglaugh:

In a week or so. Looking at the interior pictures of the new union, I'm afraid that it will be a modern/glass/reclaimed wood/ non-college vibe joint. Hope not!

The new Kingfish is not only open, but a huge upgrade. The original structure was moved intact, but now there's a great large back patio with a separate bar and tv's. And oh - did I mention how a huge chunk of the old Harmon/Haas floor welcomes you as you enter the front door?

Yeah, they did a great job. Kingfish should be on this list.

many beer-soaked nights spent drinking there, or pitchers from Lavall's in the courtyard there, when I lived in Euclid Hall.

Cheshire Cat used to have, I wanna say, 99 cent pitcher (PBR) nights on... Thursday? The bathroom was disgusting: It was kept almost completely dark for a reason. If you risked washing your hands, there was a good chance that it would somehow make them dirtier, because it would mean having to touch a few things in there (plus that would entail extra seconds having to smell the stench). Better to pee in the trough and get the heck out.

Loved that place, for what it was.

Hmm. Interesting. I rolled into the new student store last saturday and was kind of surprised with the exterior architecture. It's something out of the late 60's, lots of sharp angles in the exterior structure with a sloping roof line extending the glass upwards at an angle. here's a rendering which doesn't do it justice for the impression I got. I was kind of surprised at how retro it looked, but holding out final judgment until all construction is done.

From the early 80's:
1. Manuel's...mentioned earlier in this thread...$1.75 happy hour for pitcher of beer and chips....had the super burrito (Gila Monster) for Thanksgiving dinner one year..."Run Around Sue" was number 134 on the Manny's Jukebox..dancing on the tables was allowed until someone fell on their face....I still have one of the wooden and leather stools....Frank & Bill were the owners and Frank drove across the bay to The Alpine Inn to attend my buddies bachelor party.
2. Brennans/Spengers...Brennans had great bloody marys in the morning, and Spengers had great late night cocktails.
3. Larry Blakes....Pitchers of Long Island Iced teas served in the basement that would knock your socks off.
4. LaVal's, CBI, Bertolas, and Kips.

Yes. Tis open for bidness.

Went to the new King Fish location last week and it is great. The same old building has been moved to Telegraph and they've used center court from the old Haas Pavilion floor for the area around the bar. Configuration remains the same but now you can walk outside between the shuffle board table and old bathroom onto an outdoor patio with a bunch of tables, second shuffleboard table and long outside/covered bar with TVs. Gonna watch some NFL games on a Sunday or two this fall.
