Their RB did get 1 rushing TD to go with the Aztecs' 2 pick sixes, 1 KO return, and 3 FGs. But yeah, your point stands.

This is scary. Remember when the week we went to Maryland in 20008? They had lost to E. Tenn. State or something, and the entire fanbase was depressed (not going full Jihad because they were self-deprecating, it was really funny) about their program and Fridge. They just pounced on us.

Yes I do and I remember the next year when we played them in Berkeley and we blew them out of the water. I think we play SDS in Berkeley.

I call it "Evil Mesa". And after 13 years of being on AztecMesa and the 2 boards before it, there was a vote for who has been the best poster over that time. I came in 2nd over 13 years.

Shortly after that, the board changed hands and a guy named Erik took it over. Erik was my biggest enemy on previous boards. Who was Erik?

Yes, this is probably their biggest game of the season, they play Penn St too but that's not longer a solid program. They're going to give us their best shot.

YEah, he's gone off the deepend. It appears to be the site admin, possibly the owner (in theory above the moderators) which makes it even weirder. He simply can't go a few posts without pointing out how bad the offensive performance was and refuses to look at the positives.

And Tedford didn't challenge that frickin' safety!!! I'm still annoyed about 1) how that wasn't called a safety 2) how it wasn't reviewed 3 ) why Tedford didn't make a big deal of it. I mean like the guy was a full yard in the end zone (let it go xultaif....)

My dad worked at SDSU so I have a soft spot for that program. I rooted for the team in my pre-college days, remember Don Coryell? Don Horn? An early championship vs one of the Dakota States? We're talking 60s here. SDSU had a great string of QBs that included Brian Sipe later on.

As a 3rd generation Cal grad I am true blue and no question who I root for next week, but I wish SDSU all the best, of course.

Yup, I was at Maryland for that game, the most recent Cal road game I've attended. I remember the Vereen comment and also its parallel, "Jahvid... Hell they could start Pete Best and still beat us." A pleasant and anticipatory walk through campus before the game was paired with a distressing slog after the game.

Oh yes...And the Aztecs are a great team to root for. We are ALWAYS the underdogs...Even in our own damn city. (see OP's original post)

I came to town just after Coryell left but remember it well. Great players back then. The Aztecs put many QB's and Corners/DB's in the pros through that time.

Don Horn...Oh yeah...I was the co-host on an Aztec Internet radio show for a couple years. About 3 years ago we had Don Horn on as a guest. He is doing well and living in Colorado (I think Colorado). Still a big Aztec fan and comes to a couple of home games each year.

Our team in a nutshell...Defense quick, deep, good.........Offense running game good, QB play decent (can be good), worried about Oline and the receivers.

Special teams Good.

Interesting, although I have to note that Aztecmesa is the first hit on a Google search for San Diego State football forums and Aztecstalk doesn't show up at all on the first page. They definitely seem to have the most traffic.

It seems like the moderator has taken a turn toward the dark side but candidly I can totally understand it. Some of our longest time posters are the most bitter - at some point you can only see your hopes as a fan get blown up so many times before you just lose it. The opposite of love isn't hate - it's apathy. So if they care enough to post at least they still care.

The mod's main problem seems to be that San Diego State scored one offensive touchdown against a school essentially two divisions beneath them (he's right that a non-scholarship FCS school is different than an FCS school that offers scholarships, regardless of whether they are still in the same division). Some people on here would be losing their **** if that happened to Cal for sure - it just wouldn't necessarily be Moraga leading the charge.

Love guys who are fired up about their teams - whether they are over-reacting or not. Much rather hang out with a guy who knows the players, coaches, opponents, team history and with whom I disagree 100% than some fair weather "fanatic" who leaves early in a blowout because, you know, traffic, Triscuits, beer. The less successful the program, the more respect these not-always-even-keel types should get.

Cal State San Diego, no need to get all fancy.

There was also that weird play where some a-hole in the stands blew a whistle just after Cal snapped the ball. Our whole offense stopped, thinking the play was dead. Confusion. Broken play went nowhere. Refs didn't do anything about it. Drive stalled at a critical point early in the game.

Yeah, context is everything.

When I was a kid in the 70's San Diego State was the Boise State of that era. In the 60's and 70's SDSU was a monster of a Mid Major (even if the term didn't exist then). They even had multiple undefeated seasons (even at the D1 level). And then the AD went mental and fired Head Coach Claude Gilbert and the program fell apart. It would have a few good years here and there, but nothing sustained. We had a great year in '86, making it to the Holiday Bowl and nearly beating a good Iowa team (only losing on a last second field goal in a wild game). Marshall Faulk came in, but we didn't have enough defense to win consistently. Then we had a decade of losing, culminating in the debacle that was Chuck Long (one of the worst Head Coaches ever).

We finally got the program back on track with Brady Hoke, winning the Poinsettia Bowl handily in 2010. After that it was a holding pattern and then slow decline. Rocky Long has not been able to recruit a good QB to save his life. The program was built back up into a winner by Brady Hoke (and Rocky Long as DC), but that program building momentum has been lost. It's kind of like a game where you can feel the momentum shift and you know your team is going to lose even though they're ahead in the 3rd quarter. The momentum shifted a couple of years ago and we haven't been able to turn it around. The program has regressed over the last two years. We've got a good foundation, and a really good coach could take this team to the Top 25. There is a TON of talent in San Diego County, but we rarely keep any of those players in town (see Stefan McClure as an example, who went to my high school - 25 years after I did). We need a coach who can keep San Diego talent in San Diego.

Anyway, after only scoring ONE offensive TD against an FCS Non Scholarship team on Saturday (while also piling up SIX three and outs) that was the straw the broke the camel's back. 35 years of frustration was vented in a 12 hour span.

You guys have had your share of frustration recently, and it looks like that may be coming to an end. I'll be rooting for you guys - except this Saturday.
