Exactly....BI is no different than any other forum...whining and crying about announcers unless they are total homers for THEIR team. I'll bet if any poster here became an announcer, they'd be equally as shitty and bias as anyone else...just something else to bitch and complain about. I'm surprised anyone hates Petros Papadakis. They guy is almost a total homer for Cal and get pretty good reviews from most corners. Oh well, carry on.....

Agreed.
This forum is no different than any other forum in college football. On the Tennessee boards, the overwhelming (and grossly misguided) consensus is that "ESPN hates Tennessee," because the talking heads and commentators don't spend time talking about the Volunteers and singing their praises. It seriously drives me insane. I honestly don't care what they say or how they say it, as long as the Volunteers win.
That said, as much as I like you all, I can't help but get a little perturbed by the chatter about commentators and announcers, because they are merely doing their jobs.

So how is everyone doing in Knoxville? You guys should be undefeated and either in or near the Top 10. Man, I feel bad for you guys.

but i mean, are you surprised considering how much angst we have over a former JC QB transfer saying Butte College instead of Cal in the NFL intros?

Wow. I was unaware of that follow up interview. So Artie and Joe jobbed us. That interview makes me think better of Buck.
KoreAmBear;842559828 said:
That is cool to see -- pretty hilarious follow up talk on this. I love it when people who trash each other reconcile LOL. It's great that Artie has a soft side as he seemed so mean. Just like when Howard Stern said he regretted saying stuff to Robin Williams, and how he wanted not to be that way (wanting to be controversial and edgy as a young man). I didn't know that Artie was such a baseball fan too.

Oooh. Musberger makes me insane. Cliche ridden pomposity. Just the sound of his voice sends me running and screaming out of the room.

No no no no no. Musburger is the worst. So overdramatic. Always trying to coin nicknames for players.. "Here comes the BATTERING RAM!" (That is a real Musberger quote by the way.) Constantly calling Herbstreit "Herbie" like they've been Brest friends for years. Going back to the same phrases play after play. "Nothin doin!" He's awful.
Musberger has one storyline & he's sticking with it no matter what's happening on the screen.cubzwin;842559497 said:

Add Herby. BTW, he loves Goff, and kept talking about him at the UofA game (given it was a blow-out, he had nothing better to do).
Sucks. If he says Berkeley Bears in my presence, I legally will not be responsible for what I do.pingpong2;842559938 said:

Game is on P12 Network; since I'll be there, I won't be watching, but please no more threads about how the announcers are biased against Cal. It may or may not be true (mostly it isn't true in my view), but it doesn't matter one bit. As long as they call the game reasonably well (in the case of Ted Robinson, of course, that isn't the case), who cares? Also I don't think that the "bias" that people see is not hatred of Cal (Cal fans are so thin-skinned) so much as the desire for a particular narrative. Goff is the Big Dog right now, and the last two weeks have seen us go up against freshmen QB's. The "interesting" narrative is the new kid besting the Big Dog, so naturally, there is a bit of wish for that on the part of the rating-whores. Let's give it a rest, though.

btw, your last sentence is only 1/2 right--video can't be used to make targeting calls, but it can (and is) used to overturn them.

Does anyone like any announcers? Other than Vin Scully, who is more of a museum piece, I can't recall anyone who gets positive reviews. I admit to enjoying Gus Johnson's style- he's better at March Madness
