Agreed.

This forum is no different than any other forum in college football. On the Tennessee boards, the overwhelming (and grossly misguided) consensus is that "ESPN hates Tennessee," because the talking heads and commentators don't spend time talking about the Volunteers and singing their praises. It seriously drives me insane. I honestly don't care what they say or how they say it, as long as the Volunteers win.

That said, as much as I like you all, I can't help but get a little perturbed by the chatter about commentators and announcers, because they are merely doing their jobs.

Well, I can't really say with any certainty, but I'm sure some fans in Tennessee are probably going to have to be put on suicide watch after those two losses, especially to Florida. That's eleven consecutive years of heartache and frustration at the hands of one of our main rivals.

The announcers are a different matter, but I'm not going to agree that every team is screwed over equally by the refs. Because BI posters are generally intelligent and enlightened, it makes sense that we'd want to be super objective. When a school has been good for a long period of time, though, it seems that the team get more calls by the zebras. Since we're usually mediocre, we don't ordinarily get the benefit of the doubt. With a handful of flat-out ridiculous calls and non-calls (McCain, Skov, etc.) going against us in recent years along with the general lack of overturns when video evidence seems adequate (and I know video can't be used to make or overturn targeting calls), I'll be more than willing/happy to change my tune.

Two local Bay Area guys working their way-up, Roxy Bernstien and Dave Fleming, I find outstanding. Also like Petros, but as a part time Rolling Hills residence, I am required to under the CC&Rs (Petros is a local guy). The Weasel is great and very informed, but doesn't seem to do many games that I see. And I still like Musberger, thought I realize he has mileage. Gary Danielson also seems good. Also basketball, which will be listening to a lot, has Don MaClean, who is wonderful, Monty and Sunderland, who also are good, and a lot of guys everyone will hate. ESPN has good football play by play guys (especially like Fowler on Saturday night), but their analysts can be horrible (e.g., Brock Huard).

That is cool to see -- pretty hilarious follow up talk on this. I love it when people who trash each other reconcile LOL. It's great that Artie has a soft side as he seemed so mean. Just like when Howard Stern said he regretted saying stuff to Robin Williams, and how he wanted not to be that way (wanting to be controversial and edgy as a young man). I didn't know that Artie was such a baseball fan too.

Yeah Musburger has gone downhill the last several years, his work is not aging gracefully like Keith Jackson, and is not even close to Verne Lundquist.

Actually, the concern isn't so much for schools that have been good for a long time as it is for schools in the running for the NC. It means a lot to a conference for a team to make the final 4 both in terms of prestige and money. The concern is that the conference office will be putting pressure on officials to shade their calls to see to it that the best team in the conference doesn't have an "unscheduled" loss. Remember the controversy last year when the head of officiating for the P12 resigned suggesting that Larry Scott was doing just that.
