Back in 2000, Florida beat Tennessee 27-23 in Knoxville. Florida scored on a game-winning touchdown pass from Jesse Palmer to Jabar Gaffney. Problem was, Gaffney dropped the ball the minute it hit his body, yet the line judge still called it a touchdown. Turns out the line judge was an alumnus of Vanderbilt, Tennessee's in-state rival. Tennessee fans were furious.
It's the same type of play, only in reverse. In today's football, he would have to hold the ball after the catch during the ENTIRE process of the catch. The ball was knocked out, therefore, it's incomplete. I'm not sure if I like the rule, but that's what it is.
