Goff + Lawler + schedule = Rose Bowl!

So like many of you, I am pondering the season, the upcoming bowl game, Sonny's extension, the draft, and next season. i like Forest, and I believe that if he leads us he will be in the upper half of the PAC 12 QBs. And we have top RBs coming back and a veteran O line. I like next year's schedule too, with good spacing, an excellent home schedule and a strategic bye. Oregon, SC, Utah, and Furd replace their QBs.

But here's the thing. The return of Goff, plus Lawler, a veteran wide receiver to provide balance for the super sophs and freshmen, plus the favorable schedule = Rose Bowl. We could have a terrific running attack, a QB who would be much more NFL ready after one more year, a receiver who could markedly raise his draft status with another year, and an improving defense. The ASU game this year could be just a taste of next season.

And I don't think I'm being selfish. Goff is not ready to lead an NFL team like Marriota- yet...he may very well be Aaron Rodgers one day, but even that took time. Lawler was hurt and it affected his play. Both would be helped by staying.

What do you think?

Cal doesn't go to Rose Bowls anymore. We've learned that over the past 56 years.

Lawler maybe. Goff no.

One day in the not so distant future there will be so many bowl games that every team plays in one. There will also be a 16 team playoff bracket, and the rose bowl in Pasadena will be just another insignificant bowl game like dozens of others. Ten years after that, we will play in the rose bowl.

Pipe dream.
Not much different prior to the 2001 season when a few people thought that was the year Holmoe takes Cal to the Rose Bowl.

You also need a defense, special teams, good line play and luck. Some day it will happen, probably not next year though.

Hopefully, we all won't be dead by then.

I can say this with certainty: There's not a chance in hell that Cal will play in a New Year's Day bowl game next season, even if Goff returns.

Rose Bowl? I fear you may be on drugs. I also fear they are really good and I don't have access to them.

Actually, Cal doesn't WIN Rose Bowls anymore. We've learned that since the 1937 Season, 77 years ago.

I have been attending Cal games for over 50 years, and have had season tickets for nearly 40. During that time I have never approached any season with the thought that "this year we're going to the Rose Bowl." Not even "this year we've got a chance to go to the Rose Bowl." I will always be a Cal fan first and foremost, always. I am an extremely loyal person. And, fortunately or unfortunately, a realistic one.

Just like we learned that after 56 years the Giants don't win the World Series anymore......errrrr, strike that.....just remember,
it goes in cycles.....you get the right people involved and anything can happen.

Even in this "best case" scenario, I just can't envision a "terrific running attack." I'd be happy if we improved from decent to good.

Goff + lawler + schedule - defense - offensive line - Cal fans = El Paso

This is the key, isn't it. Not sure about our people.

You mean every other year when Cal plays in the Rose Bowl against UCLA? :-P

Lawler sez he'll return if he's not projected for the first two rounds.
Goff should return if he's not projected for late 1st round ... worked well for that Butte butt.
