I'm drunk and on Bart retuning from the Metallica concert at AT&T, but they f'ing killed it tonight (imho). That is all.

Edit - to make this relevant, hung out with Alex Mack and some other former bears during the concert. Expect him to be healthy this year and hiking to Goff next fall. Good dude.

Well done, V Man!! I bet that was fun. Did you pre- party with the Furd smackdown?

I'd make my same comment about the Stones. I wanted to deepen my knowledge of the Stones beyond just what is played on classic rock stations so 6 months ago I bought Exile on Main Street. What a lousy album. The only song worth listening to is Tumbling Dice.

Relistening to Exile today. On reconsideration it's a good album, just not an all time great, imo. Definitely some great musicianship. Jagger lacks sincerity and honesty on Exile. But Jagger always bugs me so maybe it's just me.

I feel like you are giving me a psyche evaluation.

Anyway, that's a really good track. Thanks for sharing it with me because I'd never heard that side of ZZ Top before. I'd just heard the stuff from their MTV days. I have much greater appreciation for them as musicians now.

Here is the song I linked to before and deleted - one of my favorite songs

Definitely, it was a great game. Although I shouldn't have been, I was really surprised at how few furd fans made the trip to watch the game. Looked like maybe 50 fans total.

That was ZZ Top before they sold out. Here are two other examples of pre- sell out work:

Fleetwood Mac

Absolutely. That was a frequent play on KMPX FM.

Sell-out is an interesting word in music. Sometimes it means changed to be more commercial and make more money (ZZ Top, Aerosmith). Sometimes it means changed up to make better music, making their original base of fans mad (Metallica, Fleetwood Mac - Stevie Nicks is an all time great, as is Lyndsey Buckingham and their lyrics about relationships are among the best ever). Sometimes it means signed onto a record deal and made better music with the production assistance they received (Green Day, No Doubt, Too Short).

Not many bands can be like the Beatles, making popular music and then switching up and revolutionizing music for the better while growing even more popular.

People have to earn a living. You have to go with what sells. Rod Stewart has been a master at that over the years. I would do the same myself. Most critics would agree Fleetwood Mac changed for the better.

Great thread. Two names I haven't seen are Elton John and U2. Wife and I saw Sir Elton last year in Houston, believe it or not for the first time. He put on an amazing show. He played for close to three hours without a single break, and his voice still sounds exactly the same as when he started. I was also impressed with his piano playing as he has these really pudgy, stubby fingers.

dajo9, you have a moral obligation not to let this thread die. We haven't even discussed The Clash yet. Is this the only rap song with an East End accent?

Tiny dancer is the most famous Elton John movie scene but Mona Lisa and mad hatters (from the same movie) is the best.

Cameron Crowe is the master at using music to tell a story
