So I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't care much for the Stones. I prefer Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville.

Wow. That's every bit as sh&tty as Hip Hop.

Wow. We definitely don't have the same sense of taste when it comes to music. Just out of curiosity, what year were you admitted to the California Bar?
Too $hort must be on this list...

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
That's a tough one because the list sounds subjective, unlike sales.
I'm gonna guess Pink Floyd is one of them.
When do we get the answer, 'cause the urge to cheat is strong.

In keeping with the ongoing hijacking of this thread, I consider this one of the most smok'in one shot performances of a song in rock history and yet I never purchased a single piece of his work:

Damnit, I was drunk last night when I wrote that. Broke the no posting while drunk rule. First thing this morning I go to delete it and you've already quoted it.
Sorry I was a jerk.

I always enjoyed these guys...probably because I started listening to them as my testosterone kicked in...

I didn't think anything was wrong with your post. I'm not a musician, I just always loved music. You sound like you play.I figured your comments were just a different perspective on it. In fact I intended to ask you what you thought of the playing on this. Keep in mind Duane was very limited vocally. Be honest in your analysis:

To me, that is awesome, awesome music. The whole band is playing blues while Duane brings you up and brings you down with purpose.
I don't play but I've always been a fan of music and enjoy discussing it. I like different genres too but two musician comments that always resonated with me are Trent Reznor who said, have something to say and Tom Petty who said (paraphrasing) it doesn't have to be perfect but it has to be the truth.
I've found that I like songs with good lyrics (hard to define) and I'm a bit of a basshead. I always like to hear a good bassline in the background to hold it all together.

I'm listening to "Young Man Blues" by The Who right now. John Entwhistle laid down some serious bass.

Don't hate me NYC, but The Who doesn't do it for me. Hard to explain why because all the pieces are there, but all together they just don't grab me. Sometimes Entwistle plays too fast for my tastes. I don't like the singers voice. Only a few songs have lyrics I care about. Just personal opinions.
From the 60s and 70s I really like the Beatles, the Doors, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac. Others too but those are my favorites. From the 80s I like early alternative and rap. But my favorite music is 90s grunge.

No worries brother. To each his own. I personally hate 90's grunge with a passion, but that's me.

I'm with NYCGB with regard to The Who. I love Live at Leeds, which I assume is the version of Young Man Blues he is referencing. I think these are two of my favorite Doors songs and I consider them prototypical:

Morrison actually graduated FUCLA, rare for a rock star. I think Sinatra was one of his favorite vocalists. Ray Manzarek was a musical god and a very nice man. He lived in Napa the last few years of his life. He befriended the father of a law school buddy of mine. When my friend's father took ill, Ray visited him in the hospital and gave him an autographed setlist from a Doors' concert (2009 version of the Doors, that is). Below is a copy of that signed setlist. Ray died in Germany being treated for a rare form of cancer.

Music wouldn't be so wonderfully varied if we all had the sames tastes
I'll give Eddie Vedder my last word:
Small my table, sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Where did they come from, storm my room
and you dare say, it belongs to you, to you
This is not for you

Ok, OP... Give it up, turn it loose.
If I was stranded on a desert island and could only listen to one artist, it'd be The Godfather of Soul. You old crackers can keep the Stones.
