Finally got to see this. The RPO protection issue that he brought up basically only applies if the throw is a post/seam/corner. Those front-side slants were fine and low risk, and are basically what Petty talked about in his Gruden camp. We didn't do a lot of the deeper routes on RPO's in 2013 or 2014, but it allowed for massive production in 2015 when we added them in. I have noticed just in passing that as the season went on we modified our blocking on RPO's to kick out the backside DE, either by having the OT stick on the backside, or by bringing a wing TE across the formation for that backside end. I didn't think much about it before this episode, but that was obviously an adjustment to get more protection, starting around when we played the LA schools. Against OSU we really gameplanned a ton of formations with an in-line TE on the backside of runs, which let us attack what I'd call a 3-3 Bear front very effectively while also accounting for the backside DE. Really interesting stuff.

I remember three years ago, even two years ago, when most of us here (probably not you, but most of us) followed the conventional wisdom that the Bear Raid was unbelievably simplistic and succeeded by its virtues of tempo and near-perfect/consistent execution.

Critics would argue that the reason we were losing late in the season was that opposing DCs had caught up to it by then.

However, turns out it's quite a dynamic offense, isn't it? Well, I guess all offenses at this level need to be dynamic, don't they? (Even Stanford's?)

Fascinating stuff.

It was interesting watch Goff and Wentz back to back on the show. I felt that Goff showed better than Wentz from a learning and execution standpoint and would be my pick if it was my decision.

Questions were playing in crappy weather for Goff and ball security for Wentz. Last month of the season in the PAC North often involves rain while Wentz plays in a dome. LA will take the weather angle largely off the table. Amazing that they'll hold F4s in LA and Phoenix, but AFC North doesn't have any domed stadiums.

Goff came across as brighter and a lot more poised than Wentz. Choice comes down to brains and skills vs raw physical size. Goff makes a lot more sense in LA than Wentz.

Scouts bagged on AR as a system QB because of max protection and mechanics, but it was obvious that he had a great arm and could make all the throws. His cockiness hurt him in the draft, but he grew up and matured while sitting in GB. Gruden's criticism of RPO makes Goff look much better.

Wentz reminds me of Big Ben, but it will take him longer to get up to speed. Goff is a much more NFL ready starter, especially for LA.

Goff was up to 215 and is putting on more good weight.

Physical size: Rams should recall the situation in San Diego - how much they gave up for ... Ryan Leaf.
DC made a huge but bad bet on RGIII.
Rams have put the franchise on the line before getting into town.
A bet they can't afford to lose as others have.
