So is Russia afraid to buzz a Turkish ship?
I think they are used to picking on junior NATO members, it wouldn't make the headlines.

The Russian aircraft flew within 1,000 yards of the ship and made roughly a dozen passes, but it did not fly over the destroyer, according to Pentagon officials.
"That is about as tame a flyby as you can get," Harmer says.

What it shows is that Putin thinks Obama is his b#*~h. Don't worry, the President will go to a baseball game and ignore it. Meanwhile our European friends will begin an arms buildup.

If Russia sends ships right off the US shore (in international waters), how do you think the US will react?

[Dr. Strangelove's plan for post-nuclear war survival involves living underground with a 10:1 female-to-male ratio]
General "Buck" Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?
Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.
Ambassador de Sadesky: I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.

In fact, Russia has been doing that (see link below). The US did not react by sending war planes to simulate an attack on said ship.
The ships were in international waters. And of course, that's the point that you and other Putin/Obama defenders won't acknowledge. This wasn't a "normal" reaction to military ships in international waters . Its indicative of many things, not the least of which is Putin's view of Obama.

The only thing this is indicative of is the desperation Putin is currently feeling, partly because of the box Obama has put him in.

That's how it looks to me. Russia has a crumbling economy; one way for Putin to maintain support would be to get America to look like a threatening bad guy they need him to keep fighting against. Obama won't take the bait.
Is there something I'm missing here? How would any show of force help our position against Putin?
