CMS has refined its bag policy.

Non-clear totes, full backpacks......can't enter.

The team should chant this in the tunnel. It's a pump-up chant AND a helpful reminder all in one!

To be fair, it doesn't seem like this is Cal trying to get ahead of the curve here. It's apparently the new norm in the NFL, as well. Modern times...

Thank you very much for sharing. Does the clear tote provided at a Cal game a few or so years back qualify dimension-wise? If so, I'll try to find it...

Also, having taken a baby a few times, this might be quite tough... Ah, I just saw the exceptions.

Does this mean we can or can't bring guns? I'm asking for a friend.

I think as long as your friend can fit it in a Ziploc it's ok. But maybe I didn't read the new policies correctly:

What exceptions?

Just another (minor) part of general trend of making it less attractive to actually attend Cal games in person.
Not as bad as having the uncertain time frame and finding out most are in the late 7pm slot.
Not as bad as all the marketing crapola we have to put up with at every break in the action.
Not as bad as the lengthy breaks in action for TV audiences that lengthen the game to well over 3 hours.

But if trend continues, I will soon bail off the bandwagon. Only thing really keeping me in the game now is having tailgates with my friend and family before the games. But when you never know game times until a few days before, that is also becoming more difficult.

my Rams season tix came with a complimentary clear bag. Cal Football marketing should do something similar. maybe they do. I dunno I only buy like one Cal ticket a year so...

moon, I was thinking the same. Hoping at least... I see quite a few such bags on Amazon. Sounds like even a clear backpack with those dimensions might do the trick.

Diaper bags are okay if infant is with you upon entry.

So--strictly asking for a friend--the flask hidden in someone's socks should be transparent as well? Does that also mean that only clear booze should be in the flask--vodka, gin etc?

This is NOT a new policy. Just not advertised till now. I have been taking a clear vinyl see through BACKPACK to games for years. As long as the bag isn't too large it is ok. The size rules are a bit stretchable as long as you don't push it too much.

This policy eliminates red backpacks, but shouldn't we consider heightened security measures to ban the wearing of red also?

Wow. Goff jersey dude was really giving it to the other guy. These guys probably got good training as Raider fans during the LA years.

Do clear backpacks with those dimensions even exist? Sounds like that would be a backpack sized for a small child.

They say we can still bring in food, but it isn't clear if all food will need to be in clear packaging. Can we bring takeout boxes? Burritos wrapped in foil or paper? Bags of chips?

Wait, what impact does this policy have on my 9 inch clear stiletto stripper heals I wear to every game? What if I put them inside my backpack?

Just did a quick check on Amazon and there are several NFL approved clear plastic totes for $12 to $18 price range. Looks like that's where we'll go unless Cal Marketing comes up with something better.

I know you're joking... But in all seriousness, I am 100% certain that, barring the addition of metal detectors, this policy will not prevent someone from bringing in a concealed handgun.

A friend of mine is a captain in the CHP. He is required to carry his gun with him. He got a nod from a police officer at the football game when he came in through the gate at Memorial several years ago. No search.

I concur, w/o this hesitation. A compact or semi-compact, with an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster, detection would require frisking, done correctly, or yes, metal detectors...

Last year there were 2 merchants giving away clear plastic tote bags at Maxwell Field before at least one of the games near the end of the season. They may have been AT&T and Pepsi. The bags had a Cal logo and that of the company giving them away. I hope they are there before our first home game. I would like to see a clear pastic tote that could also be carried like a backpack.

Go Bears!

I doubt such would be free, but there are several on the mkt. Not all meet the size requirements though. 15-30 bucks....

I found these NFL draw string bags. If they meet NFL requirements, they should pass Cal's. The Ravens is $4.99 with free shipping if you use code augfree. I plan on putting a Cal logo accross the bird. I do not recommend getting the Washington bag.

Indeed.

I'll add, in case any "friends" are curious, that state law now prohibits individuals with licenses authorizing them to carry concealed firearms from carrying firearms on college grounds. That was not the case last season.

Of course, that law won't stop someone intending to do harm. The current level of security doesn't detect a Glock 19 in an AIWB holster.
