Maybe because he's a true Freshman and still learning the system, blocking schemes, etc?

And he did have a few balls thrown his way.

I'm torn. The push on d never happened. If we are holding back, Ok? I would imagine that stud athletes would rip it up regardless. We don't have them.

The offense is a total mystery and seems capable of lighting it up. This is a Wazzou shootout year for us as far as getting wins.

Do not see the Bears winning any games where the under prevails. Go Bears.

The middle of the defense was weak. hawaii could've kept running it up the middle and done just fine

Everyone expected a win and we got it. Hawaii is terrible but our front seven look like headwaiters escorting their mediocre backs downfield. We'll score a lot of points and lose as many as we win-same as it ever was in this regime.

Lot of whining in this thread. Geez guys, lighten up. By the way on the second Hawaii TD (the long run) I believe we had our entire second string D out there for some reason. Art was clearly trying some stuff. Expect better performance in our next game.

I read on twitter that it was supposedly the second team, but watching the play again...there were a lot of first teamers (like downs) out there on that play

From the stands I didn't see a starting number, but admittedly it's hard to tell live.

I think next week we'll find out how well or poorly we performed. I have a feeling Michigan is going to shut them out until garbage time. Probably win something like 35 to 7 will be the final score.

Not quite apples-to-apples because:
a) true home game for UM
b) Hawaii will be mega-jet-lagged traveling from Sydney-to-Honolulu-to-Ann Arbor in about 8 days time

If Michigan only puts up 35 I'll be pretty surprised.

Looking at the replay, it was a mix of starters and 2nd-string players. #7 S Vanderbilt got juked and missed the key tackle that would have made it a 8-yard gain instead of a long TD. #18 Marloshawn Franklin was at RCB but far from the play. #2 Allensworth was at LCB and ran back to try to make a TD-saving tackle around the 15 but got caught in the wash as the RB cut back late outside him. All first team players I think. I saw #92 Manley, #44 Z. Johnson, #59 J. Kunaszyk (all 2nd string?), and as CBiLA mentioned, #1 Downs (1st team) get blocked easily at the line. I think #17 Rubenzer and #5 Trey Turner (both 2nd team?) were in as well.

The good news is that we've got some young guys without a ton of experience. It's not like they are all grizzled veterans with no upside. It's plausible they'll get better and just need to have the game slow down for them so they can play instinctively. But there is no way that our first or second team defense played well against Hawaii on that play or overall. Getting gashed repeatedly for 5-8 yards by a bad team means we have to get better. Hawaii's RBs had 32 carries for 215 hards (over 6.7 ypc). Take out the aforementioned long run and they had 31 carries for 162 yards (over 5.2 ypc) - and this is not against Oregon or something. We miss Drew and our departed LBs badly.

But there was plenty of other good news to balance that. Webb and Hansen got un-tracked, pass-blocking was decent (without A. Cochran), Muhammad had a good game other than the drop, I thought Franklin looked like he might turn into a decent corner opposite Allensworth who I think is already decent. And overall the trip seemed a success.

The season could still go either way - nothing is proven yet one way or the other, in my opinion.
