Like we got lucky last night with that call right? I suppose Texas is saying the same thing about us right now.

The call didn't win us the game. We were already ahead. Texas was not even a good bet to score. See prior three and out. Could Texas have tied it? Yes. Likely? No way. As someone at Larry Blakes said of big game in 1982, "we kicked their a$$"

FYI, SDSU is #22 in this weeks AP Poll...

And now they have a bye week. It gets tougher from here for them but I like their chances. If they can improve on their defense I don't think any team can stop them. Sound familiar? Lol

Lastly - Pumphrey is special. That guy can flat out fly. That 79 yard run he had in the 4th was awesome. He made a DB whiff bad by the line and after that he was gone. How fast is that guy? He's got speed and jukes for days!

LOL. So Texas is a bad football team now? Yesterday's game gave me new respect both for SDSU and the Cal offense. There are 3-4 teams in the PAC 12 with comparable defenses to the last two teams Cal has played. The rest are a step or more below. That doesn't mean Cal will score 40+ every game, but this team can score on anyone. (And most PAC 12 defenses are not so great this year, look around.

We were in the Top 25 a couple of times in the 90's, but each time we lost the next game and fell out.

Hopefully that doesn't happen this time.

We ended the season ranked #16 or so in 1977. I don't see us that high this year, but if we could end the season in the Top 25 we'd be happy. I think we can, but it's going to be tough.

It would certainly be good for Cal if we ended the season in the Top 25. You guys have a fantastic offense so who knows what will happen the rest of the way. I know you're used to disappointment after disappointment (as we had been for about 15 years), but if there is any way those coaches can improve that defense at all you will find yourselves in some games that you may not have expected to be in. We had a similar situation with Marshall Faulk - great offense, iffy defense (part of the problem is that we'd score so quickly it was like a 3 and out for our defense, and they'd get tired by the 3rd quarter - we actually had some talent on defense, but they got gassed almost every week).

It is ridiculous that we of all people can't give San Diego State their props. Whenever we play a "big" program and beat them (or at least come close) their fans always say it's because they played poorly or the refs or whatever. Never ever because we are good. I mean look at Shaggybevo right now. And then we turn around and do the exact same thing to San Diego.

My criticism of San Diego leading into our game with them was that they hadn't played anyone in the prior season and on the common match ups (including head to head) we looked better. Well that was last year. What I saw this year was a far more disciplined team, playing with an edge and a sound coaching scheme. And Pumphrey? That kid is ridiculous. He was making cuts that would have left 95% of the P5 starting linebackers and safeties standing around with a dumb look on their collective faces.

That's a good team down there this year. Period.

I agree. That's all I was saying in that other thread. We can never give props to other teams. I suppose that's the mega fan mentality I guess. But San Diego is a good team. I followed them pretty closely last year and they were good. If they had Maxwell Smith back they might be even better. But Chapman is good. Pumphrey is a talent. He was out running guys yesterday and it looks like he had another gear that he didn't use.

And as far as us - I think it's a mixed bag. I'm glad we won. It was hard fought and I thought we deserved the win. But our defense needs to get better.

It's a weird year in college football. In the P12 too. Seems like any team had a shot this year. Barring perhaps Alabama, Michigan and Ohio State, I think the remaining top 7 will change a lot over the season.

If you guys finish undefeated you'll be in the mid-teens at least. Hawaii apparently was ranked #10 in 2007 at 12-0, before they tripped into a buzzsaw. If Cal finishes with a winning record, that's a high quality win for you guys and I can see you at #10 - #12 (pre-bowl game).

Like many of you, most Aztec fans are used to collapses at inopportune times. I suspect we will lose at least one game along the way, and possibly to Boise in the Conference Championship. I may be wrong - we'll see how the rest of the season plays out. Right now I'm just enjoying the ride!

Whether a team is "good" or not has more than a little subjectivity to it. Rankings ar about 70% politics and BS. The Aztecs are not playing nearly as well as they did at the end of last year. now 27th in the Coaches poll too bad those guys do no have the insight and knowledge of football of "false intellect" and "concerned parent".:p

We used to be QB & WR University. That was over a decade ago. Looks like we mis-evaluated a good one (and you didn't).

San Diego State not that good and Texas not that bad at #11.
