Of course, Wulff was also successful at EWU, less so in the PAC.
This is a coordinator hire. Otherwise I'd share your concern.

What would be great about landing him as our OC (assuming we're even close to that: the tweet just says we're "targeting" him) can be seen in one of his quotes:
"We have developed, in my opinion, an offense that I can't even put a name on. We pick some different parts of different offenses and make it our own. We try and mold it around the quarterback to make him be successful. Ultimately, it is an offense with the mindset that we are going to create situations where our quarterback can succeed."
Let's hope that means "I'm not wedded to a single system, so don't worry, it won't take years to recruit the right players and rebuild our offense, like that putz Wilner said in his last column."

That's enough data right there for me. Looks like he should be taking a head coach position somewhere else.

His record is fantastic, and yet he has not been given any considering for openings in the FBS. Probably not an attractive candidate at first glance because his only coaching experience has been at the FCS level. This would be his first FBS job.

Thanks.
As poorly run as Cal football has been, why would San Jose State hire Oregon State's WR coach as new their head coach without going after someone like Baldwin?
Quote:
Utah: Eastern Washington running backs coach Kiel McDonald is expected to become Utah’s running backs coach, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. McDonald spent five years at EWU, working alongside new Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor.

Looks like Utah is poaching Baldwin's RB coach per coachingsearch:

I'm not so much concerned as cautiously optimistic. Baldwin has had good offenses everywhere he's been (so did Dykes) so I'm willing to accept that we'll be able to move the ball but he's only one piece of the puzzle. Can the new staff wring more out of our defensive personnel than the outgoing bunch? That may entail finding some guys to change positions (McMorris??). So far I see movement in the right direction, not home runs but good, solid doubles.

I like the second syllable of his last name.

Can we also get Alec Baldwin please?
southseasbear;842795649 said:
Nope. Victor Viramontes (whom we flipped from Michigan's Harbaugh).
I think that will happen soon enough. (Then maybe we get Troy Taylor.)
Yes. Just like Chip Kelly when he became Oregon's OC.
Maybe they tried but he was holding out for a better school or felt he should be an OC of a Power 5 school first as a stepping stone to HC.

After a decade of dominance in the FCS and earning less than most FBS position coaches, I'm surprised he hasn't been poached already. .......

Yeah, this is the only thing which gives me pause. His HC record at EW is terrific, his record against Pac12 teams has been very good. Why didn't someone else hire him away a long time ago?
