Depends on the Tudor. Tiger Woods used to rep them so it had better be a cool one!

My wife loves her Tiger Wood Tag Heuer watch. Since it is designed for golf it is better to wear it on your right hand which works well for her since she is left handed in many ways. Replacing the rubber band is expensive, though.

Be careful, I'm sure that her Tiger Wood's Tag loves her too!

First we got phones so we didn't have to look at watches, now we have watches so we don't have to look at our phones.

I saw "killing" and "watch" in the title and clicked here thinking it was some sort of death watch thread. Alas, I got time pieces - probably a good thing.

Americans are picky when it comes to dating, particularly those who have iPhones, according to a survey of more than 5,500 singletons aged 18 and over by dating site Match.com. Apple AAPL, +0.95% iPhone owners are 21 times more likely to judge others negatively for having an Android, while those who have an Android are 15 times more likely to judge others negatively for having an iPhone. And those who have older models of either smartphone are 56% less likely to get a date.

Quote:

The median iPhone app user earns $85,000 per year, which is 40 percent more than the median Android phone user with an annual income of $61,000. On average, iPhone users engage with their smartphone apps for nine more hours in a given month than Android users.

Obviously this is a stupid metric for people to get married(as opposed to looks/how much money the person makes/whether the person drives a stick). But looks like a statistical reality that if you don't go iphone, you are more likely to be slumming it. And to think up until a year ago, I had a tracfone.

It really is sad how petty and judgmental people can be about someone else's choice of phone, brand of sneakers or car they drive.

The Apple Watch starts at $269. It is not killing the high end watch industry. PERIOD. Already here in NYC, people who wear the Apple Watch are viewed with mild scorn and derision as those who are trying too hard. A guy wearing a Rolex may be a douche, but it's not because of the watch.

What about an Omega owner like myself? Are we cool or douche?

It sure seems like you are one of those sad, judgmental people that have a problem with Apple, high-end watches, luxury goods, people with good jobs, nice cars, nice homes, disposable income and so many other things...or the people that have them. Not to get political, your posts read like a Bernie rally.

I apologize if the tone of my comments appeared hostile towards higher end analog watches. I have no doubt the high skill required to make these fine watches is very rare. And thus the pricing for these items may well be commensurately justified. And there still is purposeful functionality with these items(as opposed to say a diamond which aren't rare by the way).

If people appreciate these fine pieces of engineering/design and want to pay for them, good for them and all the gainfully and honestly employed people who work for the industry. As the frugal person that I am, I would not buy myself either the apple watch or a high end watch as neither seem worth it to me. But as I strolled through the apple store, seeing the apple watches being displayed, it got me to thinking. That's why I posted the observation. Seeing the responses here I think there will still be a continued demand for high end watches and that they will not go the way of the digital phone or blackberry any time soon.

Can't speak to the dating, but the income disparity seems obviously explainable. iPhone was first. Everyone bought them. Then along came Android, which was slightly cheaper. Younger and more cost sensitive folks switched. Older (read: richer) and less cost sensitive folks (also read: richer) stayed with iPhone. Older folks don't like to switch tech. It's hard enough to keep up with one device much less learn how to use a new one. These are generalities and doesn't cover everyone, but I'm guessing it's enough to skew the numbers.

I'll bet a lot of older, less cost sensitive folks have cheaper Android phones. I guess it depends on the older folks you poll. The ones on the Bogleheads/Millionaire Nextdoor sites don't tend toward overpriced goods. Apple is good but definitely overpriced. For the record, my wife has an iPhone and I have a Moto G4 (Android). Of course I also drink TJs bourbon so I'm just cheap.

Yes, I'm judgemental. I'm trying to get it out of my system. But it's been a four decade battle. It took me 3 decades to realize that I'm a opinionated craphead, it's taking time for me to work sh!t out. And failure to do so is a possibility.

As someone who purchased apple stock in the late nineties, I'm giddy that people want to overypay for the watches. I myself overpaid for a generation of apple products.

I voted for Hilary. I felt like Bernie and his posse were envisioning a dreamworld which has no basis in reality. Same with the Trumpsters.

Yeah, As I said generalities. The rich tend to be less cost sensitive in general (exhibiting behavior consistent with an inelastic demand curve if I remember my Econ correctly) although some of them definitely are - which is how they got rich. By the way, did you know that TJs is actually manufactured and bottled by Buffalo Trace? Not the good one of course. It's their Barton 1792 distillery. Price is definitely good but the stuff is way, way too sweet for my taste. Nasty hangovers. Wait... what were we talking about again?

Thanks for the Bourbon facts. I didn't know. The sweet is probably why I like it, doesn't bite as much. Basically, since I don't have much taste (both kinds) I buy the cheapest that I can stand. I gave up on Rebel Yell, the only cheaper Bourbon TJs sells.

They call it Early Times cuz back in the day when people regularly drank that stuff, they only lived to be about 40.

I wouldn't carve up the world this way. I would say there are premium mobile products (Samsung and others in the Android world and Apple in the Apple world) and there are non-premium products. Apple has tried to move downmarket by selling older phones for less money but by and large the Apple market remains premium only whereas the Android market has evolved to address all market segments.

Choosing the newest Samsung Galaxy phone isn't a short-term value play and arguably is more expensive in the long run than an iPhone because it may not last as long and likely won't benefit from meaningful software updates from its manufacturer.

You will have no argument for me if you think iPhones are overpriced because there are far cheaper alternatives but I really don't see the argument that the premium Android alternatives are less overpriced. They might have different features, etc. but I could make just as strong an argument (I would actually argue a stronger one) that the flagship Android phones are overpriced compared to the iPhone.

As a public school teacher and coach, I splurged years ago and bought an Omega Seamaster - completely impulsive and yet it is appreciated and adored when I wear it. As a result, I bought one for both of my firefighter sons when they turned 21 and even though not their "style," they love wearing this timepiece, which yes, is also a
"badge" to their own earned successes.

You sir, have great taste! The omega Seamaster is one of the most beautiful watches ever made and incredibly reliable. I love mine.

And to think some have given me grief for spending a few hundred dollars on a watch! Damn.

I have f'd up so many watches over the years from wrenching on cars, crawling under the house, mtn climbs... are some instances that I remember off-hand.

I've had a G-Shock Riseman now for nine years that has taken some serious abuse. Have not had to change the battery yet (solar) and remains spot-on accurate (atomic). Part of it got deformed from a header, but it otherwise looks pretty dang good, considering my refusal to baby anything I wear.

As much as I like Apple products, all sorts in our home, no way I'd roll with an iWatch. Deeply invested in Apple too, in all sorts of accounts, have been for a long time...

There are some good articles out there about all of the companies and products Apple has seriously impacted or "killed" over the years.

Maybe because I'm not rich or age group or both but those watches don't turn me on at all. I'll offer $400

But then I also don't want something on my wrist or even wedding rings bother me. I like free range non sweaty lightweight motion with all my limbs.

Are those timeless pieces? Cause the metal with bluish face remind me of the watches that my dad and uncles wore 40 years ago, though I have no idea what the brands were.
