Welp. Bears beat the spread. Defense was good, offense and ST were forgettable. We played this game with a number of key players out and another who got injured during the game. I agreee with those who say SC isn't a playoff team, but they'll finish in the top ten.

SC dominated Furd in a way they did not dominate Cal. UW is the last "sure loss" on the schedule. There are 7 games that are winnable left on the schedule and Cal needs three. With the way the team is playing, the math looks good.

Those who were hoping for more than a lower-tier bowl, sorry. That was going to be a big stretch. Those hopeful for a rebuild should be feeing pretty happy.

Go Bears!!
Well said. Cal has nothing to be ashamed of (other than some questionable play calling by the OC). If we can beat Stanford, Southern Branch, Arizona, and Oregon State, this would be an extremely successful season and Wilcox would be a serious candidate for conference COY.

And I think we have a decent chance against Oregon and Washington State.

The season is far from over.

I think Cal has an excellent chance against Oregon and WSU. SC is going to stomp Wazzou Thursday, it's the kind of matchup SC loves. Then the Wazzou love goes away and they look like just another Pac 12 team, which they are.

Cal can expose Oregon, unless ASU does it first, which they might. This D should not be afraid of the Ducks. Can't wait to see how this team plays with key players back.

We physically were more dominant that game. I think we called a HORRIBLE offensive game. Abandoned the run for a quarter and lost the momentum. Defense was lights out against a faster team. Really proud of our guys. bowers has gotta learn to feel the pressure and run upfield.

Both Vic and Laird averaged 5.5 yards per carrry. Less than impressed with our play calling for sure.

And then inexplicably went back to the run game on long yardage (2nd and 16, 3rd and 9). Then we went back to a pass up the middle on 1st down from our own 9 yard line.

Just finished watching the game, had to DVR the 2d half due to work. We did pretty well in just about all categories where we used to be pretty bad under Dykes: very good D overall, solid DB play, players in position to make stops, and good running game.

We lost this game due to the banged up OL and Bowers playing like the QB with 3 starts that he actually is. The las two seasons, we were spoiled by Goff and Davis who had great pocket presence and deep experience at the position.

I think Baldwin's play calling was a bit off in the 2nd half, not keeping the chains moving and taking a bit of pressure off of Bowers.

Still, with a few less mistakes and a better outing by Anderson, we'd be looking at a very close game. Learn from this an move on.

When SC only needs 5 yards to score a TD, yardage comparisons become irrelevant. But yes, Cal's inefficiency on offense has been a problem for three games now and Baldwin needs to figure things out.
Well he probably kowns he has a QB making his 4th start who doesn't have an NFL arm like the last two guys and is without his best WR (and really the only one who can really stretch defenses) and RB. He also has 3 new OL starters and maybe a 4th, with the one who went off today banged up. He has nowhere near the talent and experience that Spav had last season.

With that said, Baldwin needs to get the running game going north to south. Enwere and Laird are downhill runners, Beau! Quit making them head to the sidelines. I did like what I saw from Echolls today. We need him to get involved as soon as possible to take the load off Vic and Patrick.

I am very proud of this team and happy with the entire staff. This squad is really just night and day different (better) than we've seen in some time, including the last few years under Tedford.

The reality is we're missing our best WR and RB, lost two OL in the game and are starting a new QB who looked to me like a guy that showed his inexperience today. That's a lot to overcome.

I prefer to see the glass as half full rather than be down about the loss today. Better days are ahead.

I'm with you here. But we should have run the ball more.
