Our red zone offense needs work.
southseasbear said:Well said. Cal has nothing to be ashamed of (other than some questionable play calling by the OC). If we can beat Stanford, Southern Branch, Arizona, and Oregon State, this would be an extremely successful season and Wilcox would be a serious candidate for conference COY.Uthaithani said:
Welp. Bears beat the spread. Defense was good, offense and ST were forgettable. We played this game with a number of key players out and another who got injured during the game. I agreee with those who say SC isn't a playoff team, but they'll finish in the top ten.
SC dominated Furd in a way they did not dominate Cal. UW is the last "sure loss" on the schedule. There are 7 games that are winnable left on the schedule and Cal needs three. With the way the team is playing, the math looks good.
Those who were hoping for more than a lower-tier bowl, sorry. That was going to be a big stretch. Those hopeful for a rebuild should be feeing pretty happy.
Go Bears!!
And I think we have a decent chance against Oregon and Washington State.
The season is far from over.

And then inexplicably went back to the run game on long yardage (2nd and 16, 3rd and 9). Then we went back to a pass up the middle on 1st down from our own 9 yard line.tim94501 said:
We physically were more dominant that game. I think we called a HORRIBLE offensive game. Abandoned the run for a quarter and lost the momentum. Defense was lights out against a faster team. Really proud of our guys. bowers has gotta learn to feel the pressure and run upfield.
Well he probably kowns he has a QB making his 4th start who doesn't have an NFL arm like the last two guys and is without his best WR (and really the only one who can really stretch defenses) and RB. He also has 3 new OL starters and maybe a 4th, with the one who went off today banged up. He has nowhere near the talent and experience that Spav had last season.Uthaithani said:oursdor said:
When SC only needs 5 yards to score a TD, yardage comparisons become irrelevant. But yes, Cal's inefficiency on offense has been a problem for three games now and Baldwin needs to figure things out.
I'm with you here. But we should have run the ball more.tequila4kapp said:
I am very proud of this team and happy with the entire staff. This squad is really just night and day different (better) than we've seen in some time, including the last few years under Tedford.
The reality is we're missing our best WR and RB, lost to OL in the game and are starting a new QB who looked to me like a guy that showed his inexperience today. That's a lot to overcome.
I prefer to see the glass as half full rather than be down about the loss today. Better days are ahead.
