The first pick was tipped, not his fault. The fumbles were costly, but a lot of QB's are going to fumble if hit in those situations. The last two picks, that's him trying to make something out of nothing and being mentally weak. Coaches panicked in this game. Bowers needs to learn to step forward in the pocket and make plays with his legs from time to time.

Bowers and the Bears have lost it. It's a good learning experience for Wilcox and the team but it's clear they've got a lot of problems.
We saw signs of this every week and it came home to roost today. In the long term this loss is good. The team and coaches needed the loss to learn from their mistakes.
The team knows it can hang with anyone but they can only do it if they play focused and mistake-free ball. That's good. They have some confidence while dealing with the consequences of a self-inflicted beatdown.
This wasn't a game Cal needed to win for a bowl. They are still on track for 6-7 wins. In many respects painful losses like this are more valuable for building a program than having everything work out right on the first go.
Bears can pick things up and beat Oregon next week. They certainly have what it takes to beat a team like Oregon, but they need to play a lot better to do it.

We will definitely get better with him in charge, but it's going to be one step forward and two steps back. And will need us to step recruiting, which is the thing that takes the longest. Back in the JT era, we could say "we have talent, we're just not using it". Can you honestly say that now?
This team needs to find a way to take pressure off of Bowers. He is not the kind of talent that can overcome a deficit in the second half, especially without a stud receiver. As a game manager and occasional play extender he should be fine leading us to a mid Pac12 finish. And that is fine outcome for the state of the program.
Given the 5 turnovers our defense played really well. Formula for the rest of the year needs to be run run run, force turnovers on D. And recruit a QB with a D1 arm that will compliment our vastly improved defense next season.
