He's not better than pre injury longshore. Most overhyped I've seen a player in a long time. In person he's not very impressive at all.

The ABC announcers were fellating him the whole game! Was so disgusting!

It's somewhat hard to analyze USC quarterbacks - they are surrounded by so much talent they always seem better than they are.

You are tripping. Pre-injury Longshore was nowhere near as good and Darnold has some interception issues to address. But he's great extending plays and throwing on the move.

Darnold has nowhere near the touch or accuracy as longshore did. He missed a ton a easy downfield throws.

Sam Darnold is not about stats....When the game is on the line, you want him as your QB.....He makes wimpy boy at UCLA look like a distant #2 even though Rosen is great under ideal conditions. Rosen disappears under pressure.............

Except this year Darnold has suffered tons of dropped balls. We miss JuJu.

If I own an NFL franchise, I WANT HIM. The kid has IT. The End.

If today Sam Darnold were Cal's QB and SC had Ross Bowers, who would have won. Exactly.

Would you take him over Goff? I wouldn't. I'm judging him based on the comparisons that he's been given.

If Darnold had committed 6 turnovers today like Bowers did, we would have won even with Bowers at QB for Cal.

You realize he has 8 tds and 7 ints this year right? What throw did he make today that made you say "wow that kid can really sling it!". I saw none. He missed badly on almost all of his downfield throws we also dropped two ints.

I'm not the one who made the observation that Longshore at any point was better than him. . . . because he's not. In the other thread, you backed off on that ludicrous proposition and compared him to Goff, who was the #1 pick in the draft. If you're comparing him to a guy who was the #1 pick, he's probably pretty good. Is he a franchise QB? I still need to see more. I don't need to see any more to know that he's way better than Nate Longshore, who was the weak link on an offense chock full of NFL players.

Rocket arm and accurate
Can't bring him down either
Just a soph
First round pick
I don't know about other QBs but could be number one QB taken next year

I agree. Darnold is good but he's overrated. Mark Sanchez was better and we know how he turned out in the NFL.

I'd probably spend a 3rd round pick on him.

100%.

He'll be an NFL bust.

I hadn't seen him much, before today, so it's a small sample size, but this afternoon, I was like, "What's all the fuss about this guy and why won't the TV guys shut up about him?"

For those not watching the game in person, Darnold constantly has to rush passes and run from pressure. Cal defense had a lot to do with a rather ordinary game. I don't think he is as good as Rosen right now, but has a higher upside than Rosen. Darnold still is an inexperienced player. Candidly, a normal QB would have been sacked and intercepted more. Cal is a one of the best defenses in the conference currently.

How would you compare him to Shea Paterson of Ole Miss.
To me if Shea were playing for USC He would win the Heisman.

Both of them need to force fewer passes.

To me his looooong arm wind up looks terrible. He can't have those types of mechanics and be any good at the NFL level. ABC was talking about his "quick release" and then showed a video of his long wind-up motion. He has to fix that.

Arnold will be a bust in the NFL. Another USC quarterback inflated by the talent around him. His downfield throwing is not good. He gets his stats by dumping off passes to USC's superior athletes.

Rosen will have a much better NFL career. His throws are something unique.

Darnold has excellent pocket presence and escapability. He avoids the pass rush nearly every time and makes a lot of plays outside the pocket. His accuracy was off a little yesterday but is an excellent prospect. Of course Cal's defense was pretty damn good yesterday.

I don't think you would be spending it, for he won't be there in the third round when his time comes.

Is there a way to retrieve old posts from the archives under this new regime? It will be a lot of fun resurrecting some of these comments in a couple of years.

I believe he said very clearly "Pre-injury" Longshore. Remember that Longshore got hurt in his first game playing for Cal and never 100% recovered. Comparing the stats is wrong since most of those stats for Longshore are post injury.

You have to remember the TV people are going to try to hype up the game as much as possible. They also understand that they need 1-2 west coast teams that are seen as good to great. Right now it appears that Washington and USC are the 2 they have chosen. And when they choose a team, they then try to hype up some players from that team. For USC they've chosen to hype Darnold.

It's all about getting people to pay attention to the game.

Apparently also forgetting that longshore before the injury was looked at as the top junior NFL qb prospect in the country.

QB Sam Darnold is a larger version of QB Matt Barkley.
