They're on the ballot, not voted into the Pro Bowl already.

I thought they eliminated the Pro Bowl. It has been the worst all-star game among the major professional sports for some time.

The Pro Bowl may be crap but it still inexplicably gets big ratings

Oh come on! How about this sequence of Pro Bowl awesomeness starring our very own Alex Mack (and particularly impressive given how all of the players on the field were going all out, completely oblivious to the risk of injury):

Nope, though they did move it to the week before the Super Bowl, so the two SB teams can't have their players in it (if they are voted in, they still count as having made the Pro Bowl).

In 2011 we had an offense with Keenan Allen, Marvin Jones, and C.J. Anderson on the roster. How was that team not better?

Sadly true. And also the fact that Tedford never managed to recruit and/or develop any better QBs than him.

If you watch the pro-bowl this year, you may see my team play at halftime in the championship of the 13-14 boys flag football national championship game. Although I do not think we are favored...There are 40 teams from across the country and the second half of the championship game is televised at halftime. Last year, that was the most exciting part of the game, since it actually mattered to these kids.

Actually last year they moved the pro-bowl to the week before the Super Bowl, put it in Orlando, and had over 50,000 people at the game. For the kids, it was kinda crazy to be playing in front of all of the fans.

It was a lot of fun - we also played in the tournament last year. They have matched it with a number of events at the ESPN zone at Disney World and ESPN stuff. The kids got to hang out with all the players, and had a great time. The NFL paid for our travel, tickets to Disney, the Pro-Bowl, hotel, etc. They had a media night where the ESPN and NFL network guys were interviewing the kids, which was a blast, and they were showing that on the NFL network during the week leading up to the Pro Bowl. A bunch of the players came out and help with running drills, coaching, etc. We had Odell Beckham telling the kids how to catch a ball...

They are trying to get Flag football as a feeder program for the kids whose parents are not willing to let them play tackle, and then by the time they get to high school they are ready and want to play and force their parents to let them play.

Pop Warner is drawing down, but Flag leagues are proliferating. We played in the San Diego regional and played against the leagues headed by Matt Lennart, Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. They all coach teams and participate in this.

Anyway, it is a lot of fun. We are the Raiders representative so we will be playing the AFC West teams in the pool play and then advancing to the playoffs over a three day cycle (hopefully meeting the NFC teams in the super bowl). Last year we beat Kansas City and Denver and lost to San Diego, who is really good. The other good team is from Hawaii - both of those teams made it to the final 4. Miami is also really good.

A lot of these kids end up being kids you see a few years later in the recruiting cycle, especially the teams from Miami and Hawaii and San Diego.

If you are interested in flag, check out the NFL flag site. I think the 49ers are sending a team from Watsonville.

From 1960 to 1962, future Pro Football Hall of Fame head coaches Bill Walsh and Marv Levy went 4-24-1 at Cal. How was those teams not better?

Well CJ Anderson had 72 carries and Sofele had 252, so that limits the premise. Maynard was the #50 rated QB in the country (127 passing rating) on the #53 scoring offense (#44 total) with the #48 scoring defense. We were just mediocre that year, and Maynard typified that, but unlike the RB position, we did not have a better player playing behind him.

Maynard only managed to be that good because his NFL-quality receivers took his short noodle armed passes (when he managed to throw them accurately) and got lots of RAC yardage. He was the weakest link on an offense that would have been better if our coach would have played the RB with NFL talent and not the slow small guy and recruited a QB worth a damn after Rodgers.

Sure, to some extent (you saw the same with Longshore and Riley when they were throwing to Jackson, Hawkins and Jordan without a broken ankle), but why did that not help Sweeney and Mansion the year before? They were throwing to the same two receivers, Jones and Allen, but had sub 100 passing ratings, among the worst in the country.

As bad as Maynard was, Sweeney couldn't throw the ball at all and only got a scholarship because his last name was Sweeney and Mansion had the accuracy of a guy wearing a blindfold.

And now, making me relive those great recruiting decisions, it makes me even gladder that we fired that bum Tedford and didn't give him a totally undeserved sabbatical. He throughly and utterly earned his firing and I don't regret it for one second. Wait until Fresno State gets a load of his QB evaluation skills. It's a miracle he managed to identify Goff's skills.

This was a Pro Bowl thread. How did it go off track to Zack Maynard? It's JTs fault for not having a better QB, but Maynard was awful. At least he knew to run out of bounds short of first downs so he could avoid being hit. He knew how to set up punts, not move the sticks.
