How come I haven't seen anything about his recent commitment to CAL?
Decent arm. Quick release. Accurate. Decent size. Runs. Obvious athletic ability. Decisive.AlphaBear said:

This is what Tedford said about Rodgers at Butte.Rushinbear said:Decent arm. Quick release. Accurate. Decent size. Runs. Obvious athletic ability. Decisive.AlphaBear said:

You never know. I like him.
Yes, that was mentioned in the 2nd post in this thread.Big C said:
Anyway, according to this morning's Chronicle, Rowell will be a preferred walk-on.
His Lamorinda neighbor John Torchio was offered a scholarship, right? Is he expected to play QB, or switch positions?
Would anybody familiar with HS football in the Lamorinda area (Hmmm... who do we know that might fit that category?) care to compare/contrast Rowell and Torchio as Cal Football prospects?
My significant other is involved with hiring supplemental/enrichment instructors as well as formal teachers for the Lamorinda schools and I can tell you she struggles to retain personnel with a $40/hr pay rate. The only ones she can keep long term have ties to the community or have younger kids that push them into part-time work, etc. Just last month she had a candidate for a formal position (i.e. with health plan benefits) at OIS and a $50/hr offer could not secure that candidate. This is the Bay Area in the 21st century. Not saying it is good or bad. It's just what is.LudwigsFountai said:
>The funny part about my involvement was the hoops we had to go through. I had been volunteering in my wife's class since my retirement, so when she told me the district was having a hard time coming up with someone to work with Robbie, I said I'd do it if the district thought I was qualified. They looked at my background and said sure, but you'll have to become an employee. Told them I'd do it for free and they said, no, you have to be employed. So after getting fingerprinted and TB tested, I'm an employee. Pay was $13/hr, which I contributed back; no wonder they had a hard time finding someone.
Speaking of which, what is the status of Brandon McIlwain these days? Still expected to compete for QB starter, or do you think Bowers experience now gives him some separation from the others?MoragaBear said:Big C said:
Both would provide nice insurance at QB in case there are injuries or QB transfers after the spring and fall QB battles coming up.

Here is a comment and some statistical information about Robby Rowell posted on another forum:
There is another Quarterback in the DAL I think is being overlooked that unfortunately doesn't have a last name of Torchio, but made a much bigger impact for his team and from a statistical standpoint has equal or better numbers than Torchio.
Acalanes Quarterback: Robby Rowell
Academics: 4.0+
Physical Stats: 6'-2" 205
Games scheduled and played: 11 (Played 4 less games in schedule, but competed in a much more competitive North Coast Section Division III playoff bracket).
Passing Yards: 2724
TD's: 41
Int's: 4
Completion%: 63%
QB Rating: 126.7
Rushing Yards: 539
Yards per Carry: 5.2
Campolindo Quarterback: John Torchio
Academics: ??
Physical Stats: 6'-2" 205
Games scheduled and played: 15 (Played 4 more games in schedule, but competed in a very soft North Coast Section Division II playoff bracket).
Passing Yards: 3314
TD's: 37
Int's: 8
Completion%: 64%
QB Rating: 120
Rushing Yards: 761
Yards per Carry: 6.3
Head to Head Game: Acalanes 35 Campolindo 28
Acalanes vs Clayton Valley Charter: CVC 35 Acalanes 21
Campolindo vs Clayton Valley Charter: CVC 54 Campolindo 21
IMHO if Rowell had the opportunity to play in an additional 4 games at the end of the season against the same competition as Torchio did, his numbers would have been even more impressive.
Passing Yards: 3500 - 4000
TD's: 50+
Rushing Yards: 750 -800
He'd probably be ranked as one of the top Quarterbacks in Northern California.
The recruiters would have had to take notice at that point.
Again, it's unfortunate his name and competitive performance from this last season of football is not generating more interest from the powers to be in College football.
Where are the College Recruiters ?
Oh well, his last name is not Torchio.
