6-4/275 defensive tackle Brett Johnson joined fellow Arizona preps Braxton Croteau and Ryan Puskas as new Bear commits today, verbally committing to the Bears late this afternoon.

"The program's awesome. The area's awesome. The academics are incredible and prepare you for life outside of football," said Johnson.

The 3 star DT also excels on the mat, wrestling heavyweight for Desert Vista.

"Relentless", like his coach said. Welcome to Cal.
Go Bears!

A couple of things strike me quickly about this: One, his coach's collegiate and professional experience give his remarks a credibility that is very encouraging. The comments he gave are perfect for what you want in a up and coming defensive lineman. Second, his experience with wrestling means he understands leverage, speed, and quick reactions. And his film simply confirms what you would expect. I like this commitment.

This is awesome!

When's the last time we had a NG who could completely dominate the LOS?

Mebane?

And before Mebane, how far back does one have to go to find another top DT/NG? It hasn't been a position of strength for us, that's for sure, compared to, say, LB, where it's pretty easy to rattle of 5-6 top ones.

Just an observation. I've been on Twitter for maybe 4 years. I rarely tweet. Maybe 30 tweets in that time. I'm only on there for fast news updates and Cal football. It may be my imagination but I've never seen so much "buzz" in those 4 spring seasons around Cal football recruiting, even before this weekend's flurry of commitments. So many prospects posting about their awesome visits. Kudos to the coaching staff!
