The wife and I are going to spend three days at Blackberry Farm before moving on to Memphis on Friday. Anyone else interested in the Farm - skit shooting, horseback riding, fishing, classes in cooking, eating, and so on. It's about 25 miles from Nashville.

We'll be flying into Nashville and that will be our base of operations. Our plans include some extra days because, like many others, we're looking at the possibility of leaving California to live where we don't have to deal with the loonies who run this state, and Nashville and Chattanooga have some attraction to us. I called the Athletic Department a few times before we booked flights etc. hoping there was some sort of organized trip for the game and there is none, which is too bad. As for accommodations, we're staying at a timeshare so we're set up pretty well.
If you move to either Nashville and Chattanooga, you'll be a'livin' next to loonies!

Bear8, that sounds terrific. I have always wanted to try skeet shooting, but just never get around to it. I'll have to see if they have it at one of the ranges I go to. If we were coming in earlier I might have looked into this. The farm sounds like a great time!

People have all sorts of reasons to move, but consider the weather back there. My wife's family is from Ohio and I've spent many summer weeks there and the humidity is a killer. I can only assume it's worse in Tennessee. I live near Sacramento now, and I'd much rather deal with our summer heat than back in the South or Midwest. If you're a primarily an indoor person, this may not be an issue, though.

I had a feeling I misspelled Skeet. Shows ya what I know. Yeah, heard this is really a place to visit according to some friends of mine. Might be a bit on the expensive side, but we can hack it for three days. Need to correct something. Blackberry Farm is 25 miles from Knoxville, not Nashville. You guys who went to the Tennessee game in 2006 should know the area in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mtns.

Many of you may remember the Southern Miss game in Hattiesburg. In case you missed it, the tailgating was incredible. It is even better in Oxford.

I recall walking with my brother through the USM tailgating in a Cal ball cap. People were fighting over us. trying to get us to try their food and cocktails.

I went to an Auburn vs. Ole Miss game back in 1993. I was living in Atlanta (had a friend who decided to go back to school in Oxford) back then. What a blast!

same strategy. Cal roommate and wife both went to med school there and stayed. Brother went to Vandy and I have a niece there. I hope it's an early game.

I think the shuttle or bus to/from Memphis is a great idea, and my group (4) would definitely be interested. Sounds like others here would be interested too.
Count me in for three.

MSN Online is pushing the best BBQ in each state. The best, according to them, in Mississippi it is Rebel Barn next to the campus in Oxford.

In California, they found some weird little spot in Big Pine. Must be along the 395, Sierra on one side, Mojave Desert on the other.

My group of 2-3 is flying into Memphis Thursday with an Airbnb near the Grove Friday and Saturday. Not surprisingly, there are slim and expensive pickings the closer you get to the Grove. We're looking into getting a tailgate set up by one of the various tailgate companies, if only to have a home base as we roam around.

Not sports related but Memphis has a really first rate National Civil Rights Museum.

From the street the main site you see is the Lorraine Motel (where MLK was shot) and the Cadillac that MLK had driven in on the day he died.

Vistitors enter the Motel then take the elevator/stairs down into the huge museum with tons of interactive exhibits.

My wife and I visited it several years ago
On seeing the motel I was very unimpressed. But upon entering and going downstairs into the museum i was stunned.
Well worth the trip.

The museum covers Civil Rights from Slavery to the Ciivil Right Act and the assassination of MLK. Over all it was a very moving experience.
