1. I have black children. I worry about them leaving the house to an often hostile, unsafe environment, the same way my parents worried about me, and their parents about them, ad infinitum.

3. My family has its historical experiences, including a great grandfather, who was disappeared into the southern prison-slave industry complex in the early part of the 20th Century, as described by Douglas Blackmon in "Slavery By Another Name" www.slaverybyanothername.com
4. It is your privilege to ignore what has been happening the last 10 years in our country. It is not mine.
5. Clearly you lack black friends and relatives who can help you see through your blind spots.

So, it's possible to a. believe police violence is a real problem, b. not think Kaepernick has employed a particularly compelling or effective form of protest against that problem, c. not think any of that has any bearing on whether he should be hired as a football coach at Cal, and d. still not be a mouth breathing racist. It feels like you're tilting at windmills here.
This is a forum to talk about Cal football. As another poster said, we need a football coach, not a symbol. Kaepernick is neither a proven coach nor a proven recruiter of college football players. Maybe he would be great. But it really doesn't seem like the Cal athletics department is in a position to gamble with the success of the program to score a few political points.
