The worst thing about this is that the Bay area has two fine college football stadiums that would be far better hosts.
Stanford's stadium is delightful, modern, and offers first class tailgating grounds. Cal's stadium has had a handsome remodel, is high on character, and offers spectacular views of the bay, and are neither are significantly smaller than Levis.
If they had to do a national championship in the bay (they didn't if it is coming to California it should ALWAYS be the rose bowl), then both of those options would have made for much finer venues.
Can you imagine Alabama and Clemson fans converging on the Berkeley campus for the NCG? Oh my.
It's also a completely stupid statement. I get it, Levi's is a fun thing to bash and I have done it many times, but all the complaints (other than location) are completely exaggerated consistently for shock value.
Oh no, it's too corporate and lacks character? Can anyone name an NFL stadium- other than Lambeau- that has any character? No you can't. They all have a bunch of seats that are more comfortable than college benches and charge more money. Any they all have luxury boxes to protect the rich from the unwashed masses and the elements. Levi's as a host site will be the same as most any old NFL stadiums in every way but the location.
There's no chance that CMS or Furd Field could host. Ever. CMS has 53k uncomfortable as F seats full of people jamming their knees into others backs. And of course porta potties. Turd Stadium is an erector set with no amenities at all. Not at all delightful and modern. Tailgating is there, sure, bit nothing for high end seats making corporate money impossible. Ok, so we all hate corporations? Fine, well there are now hundereds of stadiums better than Stanford stadium for a championship game. And on top of that all schools can give their CFB playoff checks back.
Also domes kinda suck. Something about all the echoing and lack of outside air. Necessary in some parts of the country due to weather, but they still suck.
But yeah, 9.5k tickets now on StubHub, up from 7k two days ago. I'd guess $50 tickets day of game, with a chance of $20. And I'd LOL at $6 tickets, but think there are enough locals who would pay $20 to see it that it won't happen.
