Demetris couldn't even get off press coverage and his blocking ducked. I would much rather have Tre. At least Tre was producing. Drob has further regressed.

How about if you are going to loose that potential talent better be sure to replace them No?

We win at least 2 more games with Tre in the backfield - possibly even drawing that inside straight to the P12CG.

HAs Robertson played?
I saw him on the sideline, so I'm guessing he was healthy. I didn't see the Alabama game, but up to that time he hadn't caught a pass all season. And he certainly didn't catch any tonight. Had a few big runs early in the year. Maybe he'd like to transfer back. At least our QB's would (try to) throw to him!
But seriously, why did he leave? Didn't like the coaching change? Academics? Family issues? Anybody know? I think he has two years eligibility left.
Robertson only played in 4 games, so I'm guessing Georgia decided to redshirt him this season. If that's the case, he'll have 2 years of eligibility left.

He didn't want to leave but...
but isn't this on Cal?

He could have stayed.

There are several players on the defensive side that are taking limited number of classes next year to stay. Probably has a lot to do with the defense coaching staff and the high unit morale. Baldwin OTOH doesn't seem to elicit that kind of loyalty.

Cal could do what Furd does and allow student athletes to get a masters in their subject. Watson's academics couldn't be that bad if he got into UT grad school.

Go ahead and hate on Tre but I don't remember seeing any Cal Bears being highlighted for our pathetic play in our bowl game. Just be thankful that Cal got mentioned during the game for being part of Tre's life for 4 years.
He had an okay career at Cal, went on to have a meh year at Texas averaging 4.2 yards a carry and had a good not great 91 yards in a bowl game. Pardon me if I don't feel Cal needs to bask in his glow. I have no ill will toward Watson, but for those looking to beat the current staff over the head, they'll have to find a better stick than Tre Watson given that Laird had a lot more yards and a higher yards per carry than Watson had.
Cal missed the depth this year which Watson brings aa a serviceable P5 running back. Laird was fighting injuries and was overused, which hurt the anemic offense.

Funny thing is, Wilcox pooh poohed the idea of Laird as an every down back, before using him as an every down back. Shoulda gone with his first mind. Tre and Laird could have been a nice 1-2 punch.

Yup. Part of the strategy for Cal's offense this year was to wear down the opposing team's defense. Helps to do that if you have two backs to share the load. Which is why the reluctance to use Chris Brown was puzzling.

DRob's freshman stats: 50 receptions, 767 yds, 7 tds. Injuries effectively ended Cal career. Non factor with UGA this year. We'll see if he can come back.

I saw somewhere that he was a redshirt soph this season. So that means two more years regardless. Don't think he's at all interested, but could he possibly come back?

You weren't paying attention. Jaylinn Hawkins was the Defensive MVP in Cal's Bowl, despite being on the losing team.

Not sure about that since Baldwin is infatuated with the passing game. In 2017, Laird was able to find holes to run through with his running style that Watson couldn't. In 2018, there were no holes.

Watson had 17 carries on the season before getting injured last year. How can you possibly make a comment like that with such a small sample size?

Watson was good. He was just behind Lasco and Muhhamad. He averaged 5.6 ypc on 88 carries in 2015 and 5.0 ypc on 143 carries in 2016. Plus had 21 catches that year for 11.5 ypc.

He played in a little more than 1 game in 2017, but averaged 4.9 ypc on 17 carries.

Laird was better in 2017 than 2018 because he was noticeably faster. In 2017 if the run between the tackles was well defended, he had the speed to bounce outside and beat the defense to the edge for a good gain. His speed was "surprising." In 2018, apparently hampered by injury,he was not able to do that and would just settle for whatever he could get inside (1 or 2 yards). Instead of "surprisingly fast" he looked noticeably slow. Reminded me some of Russell White before and after his injury. 7.2 ypc in 2016, 5.9 ypc in 2017, 4.3 ypc in 2018.

Watson would have been right there with Laird this year.

He already redshirted (2017).

Clearly offensive scheme & coaching had something to do with his production -- surprised he didn't go to Ole Miss where the NWO is alive and well.

In addition to a bad sample, you also missed that Watson has great hands. BB's infatuation with the pass included a helluva lot of swings out of the backfield. Tailor-made for Tre's strengths.

Watson is now lint. Don't dislike him, don't especially care about players who've decided to play football somewhere else other than Cal. Here's NOT a Bear, imho. He is a longhorn (or whatever they call themselves) by his choice. Let their fans blog about him.

I am a Cal grad who went to grad school at Columbia. I am a Cal Bear far more than a Columbia Lion.

Watson has a Cal degree. He is a Cal grad, a Cal alum. If he was playing in the NFL there would be no question. Maybe if Cal grad school was an option...or if he went to Stanford...

Seriously this hand-wringing over what he is is ridiculous. Is Davis any less of a Bear for going to Texas Tech for his undergrad? He loved Berkeley just as much as anyone. Tre is just as much a Bear as he is a Longhorn.

Secondly, would any of you really have advised your kids to do differently from Tre given his options?

Hey, I said I don't dislike him. Running around on the football field in white & orange is definitely Watson's right. You want to cheer for the longhorns, good for you. Free country.
