It was a WC problem, not just a Crogan's problem. A murder every other year now. When the WC nightlife became well known, hot even, people started driving in from Antioch, San Jose, Fairfield, etc., and young men from Oakland took BART. WC put a hold on new liquor licenses, and there was also a famous beating uploaded to Youtube where police were so overwhelmed with current calls, there weren't enough officers to cover fight / problem number 4 or 5. Cal alum Johnny Methany / Johnny Love also opened a place in the Creek, poor location and only 1 urinal and 1 toilet. He had problems and so did WC police who were sued for profiling? I drove through downtown once after that period, and counted 6, 7, or more police cars. Not sure the current status.

The Rooftop place sounds cool. I miss La Virage and the drinks they would light on fire.

Gone from the Bay Area now for so long, this thread is great reading; Freddie's, Roundup, Crogan's, Abernathy's, all bring back good memories. Crogan's then (late 70's early 80's) was the east bay version of Perry's or Washington Square B&G in the city, classy, relatively low-key - spent a lot of Fri/Sat nights there. Sad to hear where that all ended up.

It now is some kind of 80s dance club. Still there. Now called Retro Junkie.

Petar's in Lafayette gone. The old Kelarney House, Roundup, and Peter's all in walking distance.

New Ranchero type Mexican place in Concord. I think Vinny's there is still holding on. Two Davis icons, the Graduate and Murder Burger closed.
