They didn't make Weaver a priority, though, and the player who made Weaver's offer non-actionable isn't even on the team anymore.

Pretty sure they knew how good he was. Here's the article naming him state HS player if the year. Albeit, after already commiting to Cal. Coach comments about his motor sure are still spot on.

The way he laid on top of multiple Ole Miss players he tackled on the last drive to run the clock... genius. Then to stop the QB on the final play from an OLB position. This is the current generation's Jerrott Willard or Zach Follett. We'll still be remembering him fondly a decade plus from now.

That was simply the best performance I have witnessed by a Cal linebacker. Made up for injuries on the WLBs by tackling from sidelines to sideline.

I've decided it's unfair to say that this team succeeds based on coaching and fundamentals instead of star power. Evan Weaver is star power incarnate, and he's definitely a big reason for our success.

he has the same intelligence and tireless drive, and hitting, speed, etc.

I would say he comes off as more intimidating though. Maybe not in the face or hairstyle, but I can see guys getting distracted just by his scent.

Corral stepped on Weaver after he tackled him early in the game. From that point on - I felt Weaver was going to get one on him at some point. The roughing the passer penalty was Corral's smack talk and stepping on Weaver karma came do - weaver couldn't help but light him up

I just remembered when Dykes complained that Furd's DBs were bigger than our LBers LOL. Now our healthy starters are Goode who looks the part, Paul who looks like a college linemen, Deng who looks like a small forward on the basketball team, and Weaver who looks (and plays) like a Chicago Bear.
