Or did I speak too soon? Is there someone who can breathe new life into this tired old beav genre?
Wait, we have a home and away with South Carolina?bearister said:
If the name of the team was a nickname for male genitalia, we would be making male genitalia jokes...so this is basically all on Oregon State.

Will it never end? Thought by now this community would be more informed. I love a little bawdy humor now and then, but when women are included in this forum this is more than insensitive. Maybe I'm out of line, but think not.

Hey Mama Bear, out of respect for you, I have deleted what can be deleted. Also out of respect, I would like to share my opinion that having fun at an opponent's expense is part of the fun of college rivalries, especially when their mascot's name also means something that's funny in a football context (see Trojans). I 100% assure you that if we played South Carolina every year, we would have fun with that one, too.Mama Bear said:

Don't know how many know this, but "Wally" (Beaver Cleaver's brother) was in the 50's slang for p***s. You know the creators of the show knew what they were doing.orindabear74 said:
First x-rated comment made on tv was when June Cleaver said to her husband Ward, "jeeze honey, you were pretty hard on the beaver last night".

I really appreciate the thoughtfulness and sensitivity displayed in so many of the responses above. I also understand and appreciate the desire to make fun of our rivals.
The thing is...I think it may be hard for men to relate to the feelings that some women may have when hearing/reading things like, "pound the beavers," "fist the beavers," etc. I don't know about Mama Bear - or other females on this board...but for me, it is more than just a "dirty joke" that feels disrespectful to women. It conjures feelings of fear that I (and I'm sure many women) have felt related to being a woman. Think about the number of women that have been groped by random men in public places - at dances, concerts, on public transportation, etc. The number is astronomically high. I bet many of you have daughters that have been groped by some kid - as early as junior high school. Think of the number of women that have been - or feared that they were about to be - date raped/sexually assaulted.''
Now, I realize that may seem like a huge over-reaction - "what the hell does that have to do with a joke about football?" I get that. This is a sports board, people are joking around and I KNOW that NOBODY meant to take it to any level higher than a witty, dirty joke at our rival's expense. I get that and appreciate that. I have been reading this board for decades - literally - since back when it was "cyberbears." Every year, there have been posters that make the same jokes about the Beavers, and I have never responded/expressed my feelings about it. But, since Mama Bear had the courage to bring it up...I think it's important to add my two cents (for whatever they are worth.)
We still live in a world in which many women still feel fear when they are alone and are "cat called," walk past a group of guys that whistle at them/make sexual comment, or when, say, they are jogging and are honked at by car with some guys in it. It all comes from the same place.
I guess the point is that, as a woman, you want to feel safe - and respected. So, when there are comments like "pound the beavers," it just feels like, at minimum, people don't understand how uncomfortable the comments may make female board members feel - or, they don't care...and think women just need to suck it up and not feel that way cuz it's a "funny joke."
Sorry for the rant.
If you had a daughter that was dating someone that went to your house to watch the Cal v. Oregon State game - and, made various comments like "Fist the beavers!" "Lick those Beavers" - in front of her...what would you think of the guy? Would you want her to keep dating him? Would it tell you anything about how he views women? Or how he views sexual interactions with women? Would it tell you anything about how he views your daughter?oski003 said:Is it okay to lick the Beavers?SoCalie said:

First, thank you very much for your thoughtful response.oski003 said:
It is a bit awkward when parents make sexual jokes around their kids and vice versa. If my daughter's boyfriend was comfortable saying this around me, out of the blue, I would be a bit worried about how he acted when I was not around.
Are all double entendres off-limits or only those referencing female sex organs?

So funny! Reminds me of when this board was "Cyberbears.org" -- and people would accidentally go to "Cyberbears.com"B.A. Bearacus said:
