Best part, winning at Furd...then Cal fans storming the field, which is way too dignified for Furders but damn, have some dumb fun, live a little. Go Bears!

Thank you Chase Garbers

Yes! And great to see Remigio come up big toward the end also! Supreme Happiness!!!

Remiggio and Crawford back next year.
The only senior WR is Jordan Duncan. We'll get everyone else back.

The only RB we lose is Alex Netherda

Hard to believe but the offense may well be better than the defense next year, perfect time to attract a new OC.

LOL, then all the Baldwin apologists can claim that Cal just didn't have enough health/talent on offense.

Great win, Golden Bears. Thank you for getting the Axe back!
Beat UCLA next week and finish the season strong!

Pretty good quote from Shaw ... Garbers has only lost one game he has started. Would love to see a new OC and a better offense but perhaps Garbers is the real deal. Give him some better surrounding play next year and see what happens.

Edit: not sure Shaw is right about his stat.

Garbers started in our losses to ASU and USC. This is his 2nd PAC-12 win this year, maybe if you alter it to "games Garbers played every snap"?
Or "games Garbers started and played for at least a half."

They don't. Stanford is not a good team right now.

It looked like a sure face mask from where I was, but I am told that the replay just exposed Mills as a weak runner, falling from a nothing hit.

Seeing Coach Wilcox lead the team in a "you know if, you tell the story...." in the locker room next to the axe with all the players singing and jumping up and down....yeah, that doesn't suck.

His hand was close to the facemask, but on replay looks like he never actually grabbed it.

If it is the play I'm thinking of he grabbed the upper jersey and his arm scraped across the mask making it look like a face mask, but it wasn't.

Yeah that's it. Hand may have brushed the facemask, but was not a grab.

The offense should be a lot better than it was this season.

We should have a healthy Garbers with this season under his belt and another year of spring practice (plus the 2 weeks extra practice for the bowl game, which helps a lot).

We should have a healthy Chris Brown, and he made an impact, as did Collins once he got up to speed.

We return almost all our receivers and they will get a lot of time to practice with Garbers, which should improve their timing.

We not only return every starting OL, but we get Williams and Craig back (they missed the entire season with injuries) and we've seen quite a few freshman get playing time, which gives them a chance to improve. We should be at least 7 deep with experienced OL next season. This season we've had games where 3 starters were freshmen.

I expect a quantum leap forward for the offense.

**
The defense will definitely backslide some, but perhaps not as much as people think.

DL - Bequette and Zeandae Johnson both got medical redshirts and can return. (we'll see if they do) also Maldanado returned in the second half of the season, so we should have at least 4 experienced DL at the start of next season.

LB - we lose Weaver, Hawk Schrider and Colt Doughty (as well as NB White who is listed as a senior LB here at Bear Insider). But we get a lot of players back. The big question is if we have any good ILB after Deng (who probably should be an OLB, but was showing improvement in the latter half of this season.)

DB - we do lose 4 seniors for sure, and might lose Bynum and/or Hicks. (I understand Bynum considered leaving after last season.) But we do get Josh Drayden back through Medical redshirt and there are 3 more DB who have gotten significant playing time in Branden Smith, Scott (who had an int against Furd) and Chigose (I don't remember how to spell his last name.) It won't be the same with the loss of experience, but there is a lot of talent there.

**
I haven't looked at the other teams in the conference, but I don't see 2020 being a significant rebuilding year for Cal. We lose just 14 seniors and several of them have capable backups. The big key will be to have fewer major injuries. 5 players who were expected to make significant contributions missed 2019 due to injuries that occurred before the 2nd game of the season (most in practice)

Rally Comm BROUGHT IT! First of all, they dominated the stare-down. Wasn't even competitive. And once taking possession of the Axe, the protective formations were very impressive. You could tell they had done a lot of practice and gotten in some reps. Sure, they dropped it at one point but they maintained the formation and got it going again in no time. Hats off the Rally Comm.

I didn't seem them actually "drop" the axe. The two Rally Comm members in the middle of that protective formation tripped (probably because the circle around them got too close.) They recovered quickly though.

Fingers crossed.
The Pac-12 network had an interesting point. In games where Chase Garbers started and played the whole game Cal was 4-0 (now 5-0) When he was injured at some point Cal was just 1-5.

It's easy to blame Baldwin, but the injury bug did have a huge impact. Cal also had 3 different QBs start a game this season. USC is the same, but they had the all around talent to avoid complete catastrophy due to that and have an 8-4 record. Stanford can't do better than 4-6 with their 3 different starters. It does make a huge difference.

So while I do think Baldwin makes some bad play calls, I also think we never saw him at his best this season due to the OL and QB injuries that really did have a huge impact.

When over the past three years would you say we saw Baldwin "at his best"?
