What a crappy matchup for Utah and the Pac-12

They crapped the bed, now they get to roll around in it. If I bothered with sports betting, I'd take Texas given any reasonable line.

Per Sagarin, Texas is not much worse than Utah, they just played a brutal schedule.
Boise deserves a better matchup (opponent) was my point. Memphis got theirs.socaliganbear said:
At least that UW-Boise has some intrigue.

I don't get the intrigue. An underachieving and underwhelming .500 team in a bad conference vs a conference champion that in a sane postseason system would be competing for a NATTY?
Unless they are selected for an NY6 Bowl, the MWC champion is contractually obliged to play in the Vegas Bowl.GBear4Life said:
Memphis (12-1) gets a Dec 28 matchup vs Penn State
But Boise St (12-1) gets like 5th place Washington ???

The bowl system was better before every single bowl got eaten up by conference alignments. In the old days Boise probably does get a better bowl game.
Cal, of course, also felt the screw job in 2004. I guarantee that in the old days the Fiesta Bowl or someone would have invited us that year.
It will be interesting to see the ratings once the Louisville/Mississippi St. game and the Redbox game are played. They kick off at the same time on ESPN and Fox respectively. Note: Since the Orange Bowl is on ESPN, the lead to it is not the Redbox....95bears said:
On the upside, this game appears to be the second best matchup today and we'll pickup the pre-orange bowl east coast audience. Wait, that's not always good for Cal.

The bowl conference alignment beyond the big bowls (eg Rose) is bad. The playoffs being so absurdly biased is worse.
Oregon and Ohio State should be playing in the Rose Bowl to get into the semifinals, or Oregon should be playing an Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Either way the Pac12 and Big11 should be playing in the Rose Bowl.
Rose Bowl.
Do people really care about that? I mean enough to tune in or go?MathTeacherMike said:

I suppose I was thinking the South is watching UL and MSU and our game would be more interesting to the everyone else.
Looking at the following games from a national television perspective, which has more cache?TheFiatLux said:Do people really care about that? I mean enough to tune in or go?MathTeacherMike said:

Depends on your schedule, but when I was undergrad I would watch every bowl while on break, don't do that much nowadays but after Christmas I tune it at least for a moment into every bowl.LunchTime said:TheFiatLux said:Do people really care about that? I would ask, aside from the "New year's" bowls (I would include all the playoffs with that) do people care about any bowl at all?
Is there a more interesting bowl before the 1st? I haven't looked, so I have no idea.
Boise should run at least one trick play every possession.TheFiatLux said:Do people really care about that? I mean enough to tune in or go?MathTeacherMike said:
