Football Schedule Unveiled

The 2020 Cal football schedule was unveiled in its entirety Thursday when the Pac-12 announced its full slate of contests for the upcoming campaign. The Golden Bears' home slate features seven home games, starting with TCU and Cal Poly in September, followed by conference matchups against Utah, Oregon, Washington, Stanford and UCLA.

Cal opens the season on the road on Saturday, Aug. 29 at UNLV in the inaugural college football game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, a venue that also will serve as the new home of the Raiders. The Bears then welcome TCU to California Memorial Stadium for the first time in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 5, before closing out their non-conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 12 against Cal Poly.

Cal will enjoy a bye week before the Pac-12 opener at home against Utah on Sept. 26. October begins with a pair of road games at Washington State (Oct. 3) and USC (Oct. 10), with the Bears returning to Berkeley for an Oct. 17 showdown in Strawberry Canyon against 2019 Pac-12 champion Oregon. Cal will travel to Oregon State (Oct. 24) before a Halloween matchup on Oct. 31 against Washington at Memorial Stadium.

Cal will play its last road game at Arizona State (Nov. 7) to begin the regular season's final month. The Bears have a second bye the next week followed by two home dates against Stanford (Nov. 21) in the 123rd Big Game and UCLA (Friday, Nov. 27) for Senior Day and the annual Joe Roth Game.

All dates are on Saturdays other than the UCLA matchup and the Pac-12 Championship Game, which will be played on Friday, Dec. 4 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Exact telecast schedules and kickoff times will be determined and announced at later dates.

Cal will enter the 2020 campaign following an 8-5 season that included a Redbox Bowl win over Illinois and a victory at Stanford to bring the Axe back to Berkeley. The Bears, who have improved their record each of the last three seasons under head coach Justin Wilcox, tied for second in the Pac-12 North last year, their highest finish since the conference split into divisions in 2011.

Could be a LOT worse. The section with USC and Oregon is going to be brutal but I love getting a bye before the start of conference and a by going into the Big Game (lets make it two in a row!!!).

The one Friday game is the day after Thanksgiving, a holiday for most. Might even be a day game?

Fingers crossed for a day game on the Friday the day after Thanksgiving, but don't count on it. Decent schedule with that one exception.

Given Cal's recent history, having five games in October is not good.

I'm thinking 7-5, maybe 8-4, 4-5 in conference.
However, we will have lots of entertaining and close games, particularly at home.

TCU
Utah
Washington
Furd &
UCLA can all go either way.
If we win all of those, we could get double digit wins on the season.

Not good enough. Next year needs to be a winning conference record. The time for excuses is over.

Well.....if we are going to get a Friday game, we should be thankful it's on a holiday and not a work day
