Why does God hate Cal?

This whole pandemic and the possibility that the 2020 season may be cancelled has convinced me that God is punishing Cal.

I think we can all agree that Cal will field its best team in ages in 2020. Good enough to challenge for the Rose Bowl spot. But none of this will happen if 2020 is cancelled. It looks like a real possibility. We've been denied by God again.

History has been littered with examples of God punishing Cal football:
*2004 when God chose the state of Texas to get the Rose Bowl spot, thereby denying Cal.
*the year when God caused DeSean Jackson to trip over a blade of grass on his way to the end zone costing us another Rose Bowl
*sonny Dykes And Tom Holmoe
*aaron Rodgers was the best qb in football when he believed in God, but then became an atheist and promptly became a below average game manager.

He has been making us wander the desert for +60 years, the same way he made the Israelites wander the desert.

The question is: why is God punishing Cal?

I had the same thoughts.

My only consolation is knowing that Cal wasn't going to the Rose Bowl this year anyways even if it won the Pac-12.

Yes, that was Hawkins. Desean had a TD called back when he was ruled to have stepped out of bounds. We had an interception in the end zone called back when it was ruled PI. Mostly it was not God, but the Pac-12 refs, though Longshore's 47% completion percentage and 3 INTs didn't help. Plus ridiculous playcalling in the red zone when you have Marshawn Lynch and a great OL....

Mine too! He told me that Cal also beat Oregon State and was ranked #1 in 2007. I told about what Riley did in our world. He sighed and said that he needed to go back home to his world where Cal wins Rose Bowls and USC loses to Occidental.

This is a question many people ask when something bad happens.
But if one is a true Christian you know that this world is a test. If we pass this test we get to heaven. Trials and tribulations are no more punishments than midterms and finals are punishments. It all depends on how you look at things.
If you don't believe in an afterlife then trials and tribulations and death itself is a punishment. Everyone loses
If you do believe in life after death. Then every one has a chance of being a winner depending upon how the live their lives.

After Hawkins tripped and was down at the 1, we ran Lynch twice. He lost a yard each time. You wanted to run him again, on 3rd and goal at the 3?

I'm not sure that God hates Cal, as much as He knows that even with just a trip to the Rose Bowl, let alone a win, Cal fans will be insufferable. And by Cal fans, I mean me. I will be insufferable.

I disagree with you in the OT board, but I agree with you here. Self-pity and blaming outside forces for how your team plays is loser talk. Forget the obstacles, just a find a way to win.

No, midway in the 4th against Arizona in 2006, Hawkins was running into the endzone and tripped. Down at the 1. Lynch got stuffed twice, incomplete pass, field goal. We lost by 4.

If you dwell on losses, you are a loser. Cal stops Utah at the one; Fredricksen kicks a field goal to beat SUC; Garbers makes Big Game history by scoring with one minute left in the game. There are others, far too numerous to mention.

The idea that God would even take the time to punish a school's football teams and fans of those teams, engaging in an activity so trivial in the grand scheme of things, is blasphemy, pure and simple.

I was at that game in Tuscon (that was the season that I attended 11 of the 12 Cal games). We had every every reason to win that game. I think that was the game that Hawkins tripled over a blade of grass while going to the end zone with no one around (right in front of me) AND Jackson was called out of bounds on a return for a TD (opposite sideline) when all the replayed clearly showed that he was in bounds (that was before the replays were allowed in college football). And, then at the end of the game, U of A staged a unlikely cone-back aided by crowd noise and refs. It was a depressing flight back that night. Oh, well, life goes on!
