It costs a lot to buy and maintain all the servers needed to handle all the Cal Athletics fans traffic.
I am not complaining about the fact that there are ads. I know there must be ads in free sites.
I complaining about how these particular ads uniquely interfere within every topic and are extremely annoying.
Almost all sites I visit are separated into different items. For Go Comics. These are broken down to particular political cartoonists and particular cartoons. There are ads between each cartoonist and between each political cartoon.
For Politico there are ads between each news item and occasionally at the bottom of each page (outside the text of the article).
But these ads do not intrude upon/into the text of the article or the picture of the political cartoon.
For these sites (and many others) the viewer scrolls up or down to the next news item or next cartoon, the viewer will see the ad. (Sometimes the ad will grab me and I stop and view it. For example some picture with a bear in it. )
But the viewer does not have the ad pushing its way into the text or cartoon the viewer is reading.
For BI there are ads between the topics and ads within each item and not just at the bottom outside the text or cartoon but within the text. And the viewer has to constantly scroll down to abound the pop up. And worst of all. If the viewer tries to remove the ad by clicking the X box. The X box is so close to the open box (intentionally so) that the viewer mistakenly opens the ad and has to spend time closing the ad before going back to the item the viewer was reading.
At some point the process becomes a headache and I say screw it and don't come back to BI for days. BI used to be the first site I would visit in the morning and the last site I would visit at night and a number of times during the day. But no more.
