With the departure of All-Pac-12 cornerback Cam Bynum and both starting safeties prior to the season, the Bears filled the hole with the pickup of Florida State safety transfer Ray Woodie today.

Woodie noted his comfort level with the program being a big factor in his decision.

“It felt like family,” said Woodie. “Can’t wait to get to work! Looking forward to getting a chance to be around my teammates and coaches and meet everyone.”

Woodie, who will be enrolling for spring semester, announced his transfer today via Twitter, saying: “Time to work @CalFootball #GoBears

The 6-0/195 sophomore was a 4 star recruit and #9 safety overall by ESPN out of Palmetto, Florida in high school and was recruited by the Bears as a prep. Besides FSU and the Bears, Woodie had offers from Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Stanford and more before his commitment to the Seminoles.

In nine games this season, Woodie had 25 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a half sack and a pass breakup for the Seminoles.

Woodie is the second addition for Cal in the last week after receiving a commitment from 4 star ‘22 DT Damonic Williams‍ earlier this week.
