It's been a while. Quite the stark turn-around from getting massacred on the boards against USC and UCLA.stu said:

Bradley's health. Seven points, six rebounds, and just one foul is good. It hasn't been efficient (10 field goal attempts and just seven points), but it's been enough and Bradley looks mobile enough.
Contain Martin and Verge. So far, so good. Both have six so far as ASU's offense really stalled after the first 10 minutes and Fox put a zone on them.
Turnovers and threes. Just six turnovers to ASU's five and three three-pointers to ASU's zero. Solid.
Pace. They're currently right at about 68 possession pace. That's right where Cal wants it. After the first portion of the half when Cal looked a bit frantic, they settled in a bit. The zone has helped slow things down as well.
All in all, a solid half and Cal is doing what it needs to do so far to steal a road win.
It's always funny, the ebb and flow of a game: I was just about to write the Bears off this evening...

I was just revisiting what I put in the OP, but yeah, that's been another differentiator. Cal actually just has seven points off those 12 offensive boards. But those seven points have given them the lead.HoopDreams said:

I also wonder if this is where not having fans in the stadium can really hurt the home team. Cal was really able to counter that start. Maybe ASU keeps pouring it on with a stadium full of fans (or at least half-full).

We give up an uncontested dunk when Brown, our fastest player, jogs back on defense and leaves ASU with more guys than we have near the basket.

I'm obviously biased, but regardless if Cal wins or loses this game, I'm happy we have a team that doesn't look to the refs and throws up their arms every time there is slight contact.
Nice job forgetting about Kevin Johnson, Casey.

I'm also confused why Bobby Hurley is putting Josh Christopher as the primary defender on Matt. Seems ... not ideal for them.

Kelly with 16 and 11... eight minutes left.
Hyder has only played 16 minutes yet he leads the team with 3 turnovers. He need to protect the ball better for a point guard.

To follow up on this, ASU clearly doesn't have a wing to match Bradley's size that can also provide some offense, so Christopher is what they have. But I'd consider moving Verge or someone with a bit more experience to cover Bradley. But I'm also just a dude on the couch.NathanAllen said:

Yeah, that wasn't ideal. Keep feeding Bradley. Christopher can't keep up and they need to keep exploiting it.Bear8995 said:

Bradley has missed 4-5 layups this game he would normally make. That plus the missed free throws are huge

I hope this position, Bradley doesn't drive, miss the shot, get fouled and make 1 of 2 free throws.
Really bad game for Grant. That was a horrible turnover.
Anybody notice at the 9:30 seconds left in the second half the slow scoreboard? We made a 2 and I looked to the score and they gave 2 to ASU. Nobody said anything n 10 seconds later they gave 2 to Cal. I waited for them to subtract 2 from ASU but nope. We're they so slow that cal had managed to score 2 before they had added a previous 2 to ASU?
Why wasn't that a 1 and 1? I don't understand? FS1 has been horrible with the scoring all day, so maybe they made the mistake?
72-68 final. We were competitive!
