The ball should go to Bradley on every possession.
Yes quit with anyone else.
What did we say?
Honestly, it isn't that difficult.
Yes it's not rocket science. Steve Lavin could have called that.
um, thanks, uh, for, uh, comparing me to Steve Lavin.

Yes! The could have really mailed it in after our 7 game losing streak and losing the way we did v. Utah and also with the memory that we got blown out by CU in Boulder. But no they came out and punched CU in the mouth early. I was surprised by the energy. Celestine really lifted us early. I see him being a huge part of the rotation now. Congrats to the players and coaches. Great win.

Not the best night by our PGs but everyone else came through. Nice job by Celestine on Wright for most of the game.

It was all about defense. You don't beat a good team by scoring 70 without good D. They held Colorado to 40% from the field and 20% from three. Cal hitting 8 straight fts after starting 12-20 helped a lot, too. 20-28 looks a lot better than 12-20.

Thanks ESPNU for airing this game at 8 pm, thus guaranteeing that I will be pissed off and awake well past midnight.

Go Bears!

I think we finally have our starting lineup.

Brown
Bradley
Celestine
Anticevich
Kelly

I would give back up PG minutes to Foreman. Hyder wouldn't get many, if any, minutes right now if I were coaching. The team just looks out of sync when he is in the game.
Betley can spell Bradley for 5-7 minutes/game but I would like to see Bowser or Klonaras get some minutes. Betley isn't shooting well enough in my opinion to offset his poor defense
KK seems to be spelling Grant and Celestine. His length on defense is nice to have out there. Would love to see his movement be a little more fuild and for him to develop a more consistent 3 point shot.
Lars gives Kelly a few minutes rest. As long as Lars plays within himself and we don't force the ball into him, we should be fine.

Gorgeous game - I don't recall a better game by Bradley- looking, passing, driving, and three's. This will go into his resume for the Association. What a great team effort! Celestine and Kuany looked great.

Fox played ten guys and the substitutions were effective. Maybe the bench wasn't GREAT, but those guys contributed and held their own.

A little much-needed "feel good" in Berkeley for the rest of the weekend!

I think that depends strongly on matchups. Tonight's was good for both, Kelly had a solid game and Lars got a bucket and 5 boards in 7 minutes. Other nights aren't too good for either.

Kuany and Lars were good, Foreman OK, I don't think Bentley and Hyder are adding much. Part of it was so many starters in foul trouble, but I'd just as soon see them use all their fouls and sit than sit preemptively. Still, a great game and great win for our Bears!

Still, trying to run the offense through Lars makes zero sense. Pass it to him only if he is wide open for the dunk. Otherwise he should be setting picks or getting position for a rebound and put back.

just unusual that we had the exact number of shot attempts and makes, and also the exact same FT% shooting

McKinley 3-11 with only 3 assists and 3 turnovers

that's gotta be a career low vs cal

celestine gets a lot of credit for that!

Nathan, I must say, I think you know I've been calling for more Celestine and less Hyder for over a month now. I think we're there now. Someone questioned my reference a while back to "glimpses of budding star" in re Celestine. Well, those glimpses are starting to become more like images. Looking very promising for this freshman.

The biggest difference between this game and the other games starting with the UCLA game (which for me was the first game I saw this team starting to turn a corner on how to start playing together), is that it did not fold at the end of each half. It is just one game, and no doubt we were an ultimate trap game for Colorado, and we actually match up well with them because they don't have great height inside. But still, after figuring out how to play together in the UCLA game, and finally getting GA and MB healthy and on the court together for a consistent stretch, Cal has been playing quality basketball for the first time this season (ironically) throughout this losing streak (with exception of Arizona that played their top game and overwhelmed us physically), but just not quite yet having the maturity as a team to win in crunch time, especially against the slate of quality competition we've been playing during this streak.

Again, tonight is just one game. But boy does that single taste go a long way towards learning to do more of the same. Hopefully Cal now has both the confidence and hunger to win in crunch time more consistently. Plus, this was not an unrepeatable performance. Only Celestine played far above normal, but I think he's got that potential to do that, or much of that, pretty consistently. I would continue to tinker with PG. Brown was really bad today. Those turnovers were terrible, and he didn't do much else (nothing offensively and only a couple defensive plays). I'd be ok with more Foreman. He seems to be maturing and improving his PG game (with exception of that terrible early 3 tonight).

This was a really fun win. I'm really happy for the players and the coaches.

For the first time since February 29, 2020, I was in Berkeley during a Cal home basketball game. For the first time since February 1978, I was in Berkeley during a Cal home basketball game and was NOT inside Harmon/Haas. Weird, but at least the Bears won.

Went to Yogurt Park after the game. I'm on Bancroft/Durant/Telegraph around 9:15 on a Saturday night shortly after a 7 pm basketball game, and Berkeley has a post-apocalypse feel. No other customers at Yogurt Park. A few homeless mostly without masks and a few others mostly with masks, but largely a ghost town. I'm sure it was bad before the February campus lockdown, but this must be worse. Weird to think there was just a glorious Cal win nearby.

When all else is strange, at least we can still say, GO BEARS!
