well if I ever get around to writing my Cal recruiting strategy, I'd say we should develop a couple overseas territories. Zags and St Mary's make a very good living bringing overseas talent in. How many Australians has St Mary's had?

As I said earlier, the Zags were hinting earlier and I was concerned it was about Karnowski. I was hoping that the info that he was going to sign after taking some trips meant it wasn't true.

I realize I am bias. Additionally, I am realistic enough that we will lose the serious student atheletes to the country club in Palo Alto. As well , we lose the atheletes not interested in academics to U of A, Oregon and UW. Seriously, Gonzaga? Monty SHOULD be able to close this kid!

This. Though I would also be fair and say that if a kid is from a religious family the Jesuit schools offer a pretty compelling package if the family is concerned about their son being thousands of miles from home. I wouldn't be surprised to see that a BIG part of the St. Mary/Zaga pitch as well as their recruiting pipeline (for instance, would LOVE to see a breakdown of a decade worth of Zaga recruits and how many came out of parochial schools)

The academic advantage is not just with Euros, but with Canadians and Aussies as well. Cal should at least have been in the mix for guys like Pangos and Sacre (or even Nik Staukas, who is going to Michigan).

I am hoping that Montgomery still has a good relationship with Pasha Bains and the Drive Basketball AAU club (where Murray played and now serves as a coach).

What's very, of not most, important to these kids, whether they're from here or overseas are three letters...N-B-A. That's the dream of every basketball player. They'll go where they think they have the best chance of making it to the next level.

Well, Kahlil Johnson has commited to Cal, and he may project as a SF, initially, but he could continue to grow and become a PF before he's done at Cal. My guess is it's a first- come-first-served deal with offers to Karnowski and Eleraky, and, even, Upshaw. Are the Zags traveling to Poland to sign Karnowski or to sell him? BTW, I loved his 3-point shot from the top of the key.

Well it looks like it's down to them or us (with official visits scheduled to both places in May) but it also looks like Few is making a power play by flying out to Poland (he may be there already), if the rumors are true. He's closer to Poland than Monty, right? He can drive to Alaska, walk over the Bering Strait, then do a short Southwest of Siberia flight to Warsaw, huh?

Marcin Tarczynski should be involved in the recruitment. A recent NCAA champ (200 IM) who swam on 2 NCAA championship teams. Marcin can certainly speak authoritatively on the transition from Poland to Berkeley athletically and academically plus Marcin will be in Berkeley for 2 more years.

Perris Blackwell is transferring to UW per Percy Allen on twitter. He'll sit out a year. Would have really liked to have him in 2013-2014 when this team could potentially be dominant.
