This topic may at first seem a bit crazy because in most occasions we are picked to finish last in the conference. But in reading the posts I have seen many people expressing optimism about guys like Roberson, who hasn't even seen the court yet.

Scanning the roster I see 14 "rotation players" and Klonaris would make 15, just not practical. I gotta think that soon Fox would consider the possibilty of blueshirting at least 2-3 guys. Anyone out there have the same thought, and if yes who would you sit and retain for another year?

Coach Fox thinks Roberson will be able to play in another week or so. He believes that MR will bring havoc on the defensive end with how he can "fly around" - Roberson will be a very good player for Cal, but likely will take at least another season to strengthen his body and be a noticeable impact.

appreciate the update 4g, but again if Roberson is ready to play now whose minutes will be cut and do you see a blueshirt happening anywhere?

Blueshirting kills basketball programs. If a guy can't contribute anything for this team, you don't want him sticking around using up another scholarship for likely minimal future production. Unless there's an injury, a transfer with undeniable talent, or a raw PF/C with enormous upside, don't do it.

On top of all that it just doesn't pay to develop players that way anymore as they are likely to hit the transfer portal or go the grad transfer route by the time they are ready to contribute.

that's a very good point, another way of looking at it. Still I can't help thinking with a crowded roster and Andre and Grant done at the end of the year, maybe saving a year for a guy like D.J. Thorpe may be worth it. Then again, as you say.....

Bigs maybe. Thorpe or Lars? We do have a lot of juniors, so it could help with class balance. But in general, no redshirting.

Maybe Bowser could. He's been dinged up a lot. And I think another year in the weight room and shooting could help him. We have enough wings.
