For all of his offensive output - there was one game (Illinois, I think) where as the seconds ticked down, Bears were on defense, and Gray took a charge that ended the game. He had good position and timing. And he was as excited about a play as I ever saw him get excited.

I was at that game. Went into OT, Haas went crazy. I was young but I remember how dang hot it was in there..we were drenched after the game lol. I think one of Illinois guards was like 18 for 18 on free throws or something insane and Gray was like 12 for 12.

With the right coaching, there is no question, Cal would be better with Bradley. With the current coaching staff? I'm not so sure.

That's exactly as I see it, but with the add that the other players are also a factor.

Well maybe our coaches did a better job with Matt that the SDSU coaching staff

He was more productive, efficient and consistent at Cal, and that was against tougher competition

But San Diego State is a better team with him than without him and they are better than Cal. It is like Sueing at Ohio State and Vanover at Arkansas.

Do you think Matt and Company walk out of Haas with an easy W? My money takes Bears….and the points, naturally.

Vanover? I'm sure he has heard more than once:

I never bet against the Bears. That is sacrilege.

I never bet on the Bears. That is crazy.

….and speaking of poopy flavored lollipops, Sueing and Vanover appear to be joined at the hip as far as underwhelming stat lines go:

Connor Vanover Stats, News, Bio | ESPN

Perhaps the headband and the twin ponytail fashion statements as Bears was foreshadowing of those stat lines.

So Sueing has been injured most of this season, I believe. Last year, he was a starter on a team that ended the regular season in the top 10 and was a #2 seed in the tourney, shooting 36% from 3, averaging 10pts and 5.5 rebounds. Is he really the one you want to hold up as having poor stats? Seems more like a guy who fit in to a team and was part of their overall success.

Vanover did make the head-scratching decision to play for a coach (Musselman) who was unlikely to value what he brought to the table (less athletic, outside shooting from a big, and shot-blocking), and that's been borne out (or at least it was last year). We will see if he ends up staying or moving on someplace else.

Don't ruin a good narrative with facts..*

Now that Luc Bequette (football) has set precedent by transferring from Cal, playing for another team and then transferring back, maybe Vanover can do the same! Maybe he has yearned, of late, for playing in front of a fan base that loves his "coiffure du jour".

bearister and I would like nothing better than to cheer on Vanover again!

(bearister has been trying to lure me onto this thread by mentioning Vanover... voila)

Matt's win Share per 40
20-21 .132
21-22 .142

Both were/are second best on his respective teams.

His scoring is down, but his assists and steals are up. His defense is much improved.

SDSU is ranked #42 and is #7 in the country in defensive efficiency according to Ken Pom.

I wonder if when Fox recruits these guys and they pay a visit if he or any of the coaches lays it all out there to expect Fox to sometimes yell at them etc but....so those guys that do commit fully know what they are getting into and can expect?

Nope, not at this point of the season. Is SDSU really any better than Seton Hall?

Your best, and sometimes your worst recruiters, are existing team members.
There are no secrets.

The current players all do seem to like the coach from what I have heard. Getting yelled at is part of the deal sometimes.

Agreed and has been brought before - the players know Fox is passionate and badly wants to win and also get the most out of his players (as he should). Jalen/Kuany for example totally understand and support their Coach, regardless of the intensity/vocal criticisms(which are occasional). Again nearly all coaches and especially those that are successful at the D-1 level have outbursts - (J Howard, Cronin, Kyle Smith, Coach K, both Hurley's. Mussleman, Pointer, Beard, Pearl, Miller, Calipari , as well on occasion etc). Nature of the intensity/competitiveness of the game and the importance of minimizing lapses that can alter the flow/tempo/outcome etc.
