I'll give credit to Fox he's somehow been able to get the team to turn the corner after some ugly losses early on. Seems like the Seton Hall loss was the turning point - gave them some confidence. They seem to really enjoy playing for each other like when Theiman made that power move against 3 guys the bench went nuts. The reveal about Fox inviting the players over for Thanksgiving and buying tickets for the Pacific game were both very cool and encouraging. Seems like he's evolving as a coach himself. That said we really haven't beaten anyone yet. ASU is putrid. And we haven't won outside of Haas so let's not get too ahead of ourselves. It's like with Wilcox the direction is good but in the end it's still a series of mediocre seasons. Now I will say Fox has brought us out of the Wyking cellar for sure, but can he breakout from the low ceiling we expected? This next stretch of 5-6 games will be telling. I'm rooting for him, and I will be really impressed if we can get a few Ws the next couple of weeks.
Spot On IMHO. Most enjoyable game in many years. The players and staff deserve credit for executing well.
This season is going to be unpredictable for many reasons. ASU has their own challenges and I appreciate them making the last minute change to come to HAAS. If the roles were switched and Cal had to go to Tempe, the result may very well have been different.
Similarly, next two games against the top of the PAC bode well timing-wise for Cal (both teams coming off long covid delays over the holidays). If we could upset one of those - it would be oh so sweet!
