It will end up a sh@it show. I know from first hand knowledge that even being triple vaxxed won't stop you from testing positive. It will rage through the population like a wildfire and hopefully be helpful in ending our continuous Groundhog Day loop.

Yep, having just gone through Covid myself after vaccines and watching our youngest son do the same everybody is subject to getting this now. It's like a bad cold for an oldster like me and was a breeze for our vaccinated son.

In a sane world the powers that be will understand there is no stopping this and will let people live....

Vaxes and boosters may very well be why he is alive.

My 22 year old vaxxed nephew was still flattened by it, but recovered quickly. His vaxxed girlfriend had only minor symptoms. A year ago this month, prior to vaccines, his father (who played for Stanford) died from it. All in all, my wife and I have 10 friends and family members who died from it, strangely all African American men, mostly in their 50s, many athletes, including several we went to Cal with in the 80s.

There are some who obviously think there are no consequences of living in perpetual lockdown. I don't understand how they think and why they willingly choose to "live" that way.

What location in the US is still in or has gone back to lockdown? If you are vaccinated and wear a mask, aren't you free to do pretty much what you want, where you want? And many places in the US you don't have to be vaccinated or even wear a mask.

People who have active cases are not allowed to fly. Kids who have active cases are not playing football or basketball games. That is not lockdown.

That is really awful. Maybe it is not coincidence but there is some reason that relatively younger African American men are at higher than expected risk. Very little is known about who will have a bad outcome. While it not clear what current policies should be, it is clear that many have suffered greatly.

I agree. But maybe not no money, just easier money to be made with vaxes, boosters, and tests. Somebody has to be left alive to pay the taxes. The people who make the money probably are the same ones who found the way to shut down therapeutics. There is more money in treating everyone than in just treating the sick.

There are therapeutics that gave been tested and approved. They, and hospital care, are many thousands of times more expensive than vaccines.

"Just treating the sick" in a pandemic, without any preventative measures, would not stop the geometric spread of the virus and result in overflowing ERs and ICUs with far more deaths than we have already suffered.

Vaccines and masks are cheap and effective at reducing the chances of infection, the severity of infection, the chances of hospitalization, the chances of death, reducing the burden on our overwhelmed medical system and reducing the chances of transmission. Therapeutics are good for treating those who are hospitalized despite taking the appropriate precautions.

It is similar to everyone wearing a seatbelt. It is a cheap and effective means of reducing your chances of ending up in the hospital or dying in an accident. Car manufacturers complained about the cost of installing seatbelts in every car, but they have had a huge return for society in terms of reduced medical costs, deaths and auto insurance premiums. However, vaccines and masks are more like auto bumpers: they not only reduce the chances of you being hurt in an accident, they reduce your chances of hurting others.

I'm going to try not to have this thread shut down, but there is a huge difference between this variant and what we faced last January when the hospital beds were full and people were dying. I'm very appreciative that I could get vaccinated. I just hope Bearister is right this is the end of the road to Ground Hog day.
