I'd take Martin back ... he just needs to hire a strong Assoc HC for offense

Martin definitely needs to hire an ace "offensive coordinator", wherever he goes.

He also needs to recruit at a high level every year and not just once every 3 or 4 years, because he's not the kind of coach who can turn a 2-star recruit into the next Jaylen Brown; he has to recruit a few players who are already at Jaylen's freshman level the first time they arrive on campus.

Lol. All Mizzou ended up doing was paying $20m to sabotage our basketball program.

Not exactly. 2 points in 3 minutes of action.

But he did get "off" the bench.....which he didn't do in the prior 2 games.

One of the all-time awful transfer decisions. Not saying he should have stayed at Cal, but once Arkansas hired musselman, it should have been clear that Vanover's game does not fit musselman's style. Hope the trade-off of making the NCAA tournament is worth the zero playing time.

Yup could have been a star with us. I don't buy the homesick reason either. He went to boarding school at Findlay Prep in Vegas for high school. He was used to being away. He just thought he would be a baller on a Top 25 team.

If it is a fake story, than this opening paragraph from his Wikipedia page:

"Cuonzo LaMar Martin (born September 23, 1971) is an American basketball coach and former player who is the former head coach of the Missouri Tigers men's basketball team."

….is pretty f@ucking funny.

If he did get the axe, the Huskies will hire him as an assistant coach.

Maybe we go with a Tri-Head-Coach concept:

Mark Fox: Head Coach (Xs and Os)
Cuonzo Martin: Head Coach (Recruiting)

Then, for Head Coach (Offense) how about Gary Colson, the guy that Campanelli hired to do that? (Worked really well!) I was thinking maybe he died, but I googled him and he's alive! Okay, he's 87 now, but what the heck: The offense would have to be better than Fox's or Martin's. Plus . . . he "gets" Cal!

What could possibly go wrong with this plan? Answer: Nothing!

I'm pretty sure Fox is not an X and O's specialist. This guy at Rhode Island is available as a bag man for NIL deals:

Fox might not be an Xs and Os specialist, per se, but we have him under contract and it was the closest specialty I could think of that might fit him. Actually, maybe "floor stomping" (anybody who went to the UCLA game would get this), but I don't know if that would warrant a Co-Head-Coaching position.

Colson was very, very good. Before the pandemic, a buddy and I got hooked up with with Lou on the first tee at Callippe. I had met him when he coached at Cal because our firm did legal work for him.
We talked non controversial hoop. I told him I loved Keith Smith. Lou said he loved him too.

On a Saturday in 2016, I went out to Callippe and picked up a game. I got hooked up with 2 guys I saw renting clubs before the round. They were not real friendly. They seemed ex military to me. Guys around my age and very fit. By the 7th hole, they loosened up. They were in town for the Cavs vs Warriors NBA Finals. One of the men was Monty McCutchen, head of NBA refs. The other was Tom Washington, a veteran NBA ref that was a back up for the Finals.
The night before, Draymond got ejected for swiping at LeBron's groin. It was Topic A in the national sport's news. Monty spent a few holes on the phone giving an interview to ESPN. I figured they didn't want to talk to a local yahoo about the series so I only raised one hoop subject with them. I told them I was a huge J Kidd fan and started going to his games when he played for St. Joseph's HS. They both said they respected and liked Jason.

If he hasn't figured this out by now, then he is not ever going to figure it out. If he were already trying to find the right guy and just keeps failing that would be ok in my book - he'll get it right one time even if by luck.

As it stands now, I'd still rather have the coach from Montana than try to retread cuanzo who is better recruiter but worse coach than Fox.

A 7-8 current season and 73-64 overall record would get a Cal coach a 5 year extension

This just in! After 17 games, Cal has a better record than Cuonzo's Missou team.

Winning leads to better recruiting- not the other way around. Not in the long term anyway.
