Cal ain't winning with Kelly taking 3 shots and Grant stick on zero
Cal ain't winning. The details don't matter much.

The 28 points I wanted to move funds might prove to be insufficient.
I was thinking about that number while watching. But 28 was before Juzang was out.

I guess Cal PR told Walton Cal has three great freshmen. I wish it were so.

Why would a bench warmer demean himself shooting a 3 in a skunk with a few ticks left?

Because that's the only shot he will take all season

By the way, there was an illegal screen on that shot

Quite a dud of a game. Looked like every single Bear wasn't in it 100%. Last 12-15 minutes, Fox sort of went with a youth movement. Yeah, Bill Walton, sure, we have three promising freshmen.

Well, we weren't going to win this one anyway. Let's see what we can do against the lesser conference teams...

Cal shot as good as you can ever expect (although we had lots of turnovers), but we were still down 14

sometimes you just gotta tip your glass

Did we fire Fox yet? Program has a fork in it (as it did last year too)

On the broadcast Walton said Fox was a great coach. No doubt Knowlton will give him an extension.

We are getting owned by UCLA in football and basketball. Dark times for Cal sports (as usual).

I know it's Walton being Walton, but the hyperbole about Fox and our "three great freshman" and all was a joke.

I do like the freshies. They should play more.

When will the thoroughly unremarkable bald man leading our men's basketball program get fired? I can't imagine enthusiasm and Cal's prospects could fall much lower than they are right now.

I'm thinking we get one more year of the Mark Fox experience before Knowlton's search committee blesses us with Lavin

Alajiki has played well. Can't get his own but good when set up. The other two have a total of ten points between them. While they have both been out some, that low number does mean something.

Walton struggled to read the name "Anyanwu" off the piece of paper he was given. But I am sure his endorsement was from the heart.

Ten consecutive defeats at the hands of fUCLA! Guess we can start calling this "The Streak II". Could this streak continue long enough to match or exceed the 1961-1985 streak? The stage is all set. While 10 national championships are unlikely, fUCLA is looking at perennial elite 8 / final 4 finishes or better for many years to come, while we are firmly back into the mediocrity we were from 1961-1985.

Talent gap really on display.
Felt bad for Andre. He just doesn't match up against a true 5. He got scorched. I know there was no chance of winning but going into Pac12 play I stated on this board that Fox should work on Lars and Andre playing some minutes together. If we had the ability to do that some of these games might play out more respectable.
Fox basically didn't think it was necessary to work on playing the two together. He should have.

Will we be able to keep Fox here for another 20 years?

I see some potential in the freshmen (especially Alajiki) and am hopeful that they will eventually be Pac 12 level players. And goodness knows I am rooting for them. That said, over the years I have seen teams with "great" freshmen and we are not one of those teams. (Walton may or may not have used the adjective "great", but whatever he said -- repeatedly -- it really came across as silly hype as I watched us get drubbed.)

Don't feel TOO bad for Andre, as he scorched the very same "true 5" in the first meeting in Berkeley (outscored Riley 22-9, Johnson didn't score). That performance probably went a long way toward UCLA changing its approach this game.

Alajiki is already pac-12 level. The other two have shown nothing yet. I think Walton said "great." He does no homework so he just repeats what he is told or what he sees. A few weeks ago when partnered with Roxy Bernstein, I think, near the end of the game he asked the name of his broadcasting partner.

I see a coaching carousel of poor and mediocre coaches getting similar W/L results. Hopefully I'm wrong and Fox (or a successor) could build this program into one that could eventually compete with fUCLA and the other top teams. But to really get there it would take the will and the money to hire a top-notch proven coach.

To his credit, yes he was great in the first game, and you're spot on that UCLA made the adjustment. And Fox should have been ready for that. My "feeling bad" comment was based on the fact that we rely on Andre to always play center when in fact he possesses a power forward's body. After 4 months you would think that there would be enough time to install a lineup with both Andre and Lars, even if its just for a few minutes per game, and even though I haven't been a Fox basher, this is one issue where he's failed miserably.
