Anyone know for tonight's game? Betting line is 4 1/2. There's no way the spread should be that low if Andre is out. Honestly it's probably too low even with Andre playing. Any info?
We wont know until the game starts, probably. It probably wont make any difference. We never win there.RedlessWardrobe said:

Achtung baby! Time for a coming-out party for the Big German. Talkin' 15 and 10 as the Bears roll!
Andre is out for the game and its going to be very tough for the team. The freshman Ingram is really good and strong. Will be interesting to see where AK minutes are distributed.oskidunker said:We wont know until the game starts, probably. It probably wont make any difference. Without revealing any specifics (unless you want to ), can you tell us anything about Kelly's status beyond tonight?

Was that before or after The Streak (-16 in a row)? A school record that may never be broken.

I think Fox has some potential to break that record once the last of Wyking's recruits are gone and he has his full D2 caliber roster. After all, Fox did manage to break Wyking's record of 16 conference losses last year, which I thought at the time would always remain the all time low for Cal basketball.

Yep, Brown better stay healthy. Someone here was tauting Roberson as a PG, we might see that in addition to Hyder.
My wish is we find a great sleeper preferred walk-on PG (like we almost got with Jeremy Lim). Kid might be playing in a small school division somewhere. Might be considered too short. Maybe rides the bench behind a superstar starter.

Maybe somebody like that in college who feels like he needs an opportunity. Maybe somebody who feels like he just got recruited over. Hey, there could be our new slogan: Come to Cal, where we can't recruit over you!

Yeah, I didn't mention the transfer portal because I am assuming we don't have a scholarship, but it is possible a player at a lower level, who is from California, would be willing to transfer and walk-on. I think we have had that situation before (Thurman?).

I have to think there will be some roster movement after the season... guys who have some eligibility left but who do not return (besides Kelly). I'm saying that just because it almost always happens in a situation like this, and even more so now, with the portal.

The question is, why would a player on this team transfer? More playing time? Where would any of them have a better shot at PT than on this team? A chance to play on a better team like Bradley? What better team is going to take them as transfers? If they even enter the portal to explore there is a high likelihood Fox doesn't want them back. He didn't even try to get Bradley back. The only reason someone might leave is if they are miserable.
I would think most know they have maxed out their basketball career and are thankful it is getting them a great degree all expenses paid. Our APR is soaring because these guys are busy getting an education. I would be surprised to see anyone leave willingly.

Our scholarships are maxed out. Some of those guys won't even be able to get decent minutes on next year's Cal team. Sure, you or I would stay for the free Cal diploma and being a college basketball player, but not everybody thinks like that. "Better" programs aren't going to take them, but maybe some go to a smaller program or somewhere closer to home.
Fox or his replacement will have "the conversation" with a few of them, encouraging them to seek their fortunes elsewhere. I'm not saying yank their schollies, which he can't do anyway, but hey, it's a rough world out there.

You're giving him way too much credit. Fox has shown no ability to manage a roster. Without naming names, there are players that any half capable D1 coach would have pushed out long ago. There are holes in the roster (PG?) that any half capable coach would have been able to fix, or at least bring in players to attempt to fix, during the last two years with the portal free agency.
I haven't looked this up, but I bet we've had fewer incoming transfers via the portal than the majority of other D1 programs. Meanwhile our dinosaur of a coach keeps spending resources targeting top HS players which he and his staff have shown zero ability to recruit.

I hated the Fox hire, and I am one of his biggest detractors, but the one thing I give him credit for is he did not do what Wyking Jones did and make Cal players pay for his recruiting mistakes. Once a scholarship is offered and accepted they are fellow Cal Bears and I root for them. They are on campus, they have made friends, they have begun their academic studies they are showing up at practice and giving it their all there is a reason you cannot pull their scholarships. "Forcing" them out is just wrong. It is where Wyking Jones lost me, more tha losing.
The coach makes $millions and should be the one to pay for his mistakes, not the players.
