Goaltend cal up 2

Cal should foul altishe and put him on line although it's double bonus at 18 seconds which is a lot

game ball to brown for locking down Lucas, NINE rebounds, SEVEN assists (only 1 TO) and 3 steals

Brown finishes with 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals with just 1 turnover.

I've been critical of Joel Brown this season, but he got 9 pts, 9 rbs and 7 assists. (Pretty close to a triple-double. Could you imagine that?!?) He is the man tonight!!!

That's no typo: He scored 9 points (which I'm pretty sure he did not do in all of January).

Anticevich with a very solid game. Shepherd had a great second half. A lot of the Bears played well!

Either Cal's defense is pretty good or OSU's offense is pretty bad. Either way I'll take it.

Happy for the players. Just hope this win doesn't end up becoming the determining factor in retaining Fox another season.

Defense was good. Grant played ok. Celestine was intimidated by the road. He will play better. Lars ok. Need more from Kuany.power went out in San Bruno so had to do radio but watched this morning.
Go Bears!

The Beavers are BAD. Talk about an Elite 8 hangover. Feel like Tinkle is checked out. Their talent isn't horrible but they play with no structure. Do they have a point guard?

Fox needs to win one more conference game to better last year's 3-17 record.

Not just a team with three wins, but a NET ranking of 243 coming into the game (244 now). Coming into the game, a huge gap between the 11th best NET ranking in the Pac-12 (Ca'ls 146, still 146 after the win) and OSU's 243.

Even on the road, hard to say it is a big deal for 146 to beat 243 by 2 points. A bigger deal to win any conference road game without Kelly, and of course, the Bears did lose at home at the beginning of the season to a team with a current NET ranking of 279 (UCSD), so we shouldn't sneeze at the win. But in evaluating the program, it isn't exactly a big plus.

It is a big deal for the players, because they snap a 10 game losing streak, and can carry a little more hope/confidence into the mountain school games at home. As a fan, I'm more relieved than happy that we could pull this one out.

The game will have no long lasting effect, but even though its a cliche, this team still plays hard every game and it was nice to see them get a win. Especially in a close game.

If Fox is good at anything, it is keeping up team morale and getting the players to play hard. It is amazing to me to watch how hard they play and how well they pull for each other. And it is every player. If only he could recruit. Only 3 points for the freshmen who are averaging only 5 points total.

True, we got much better shots than OSU did. I'd say a good part of that is due to coaching. The game was close because we didn't make a high percentage of those good shots. I'd say a good part of that is due to recruiting.

I'm very happy that Jerod Lucas is not our go to guy. He seems like a better version of Dontae Coleman.

The Beaves are battling a lot of injuries of their own, including their point guard.

If Cal gets one more conference win then Fox's contract should be extended. Babysteps people! At that rate, we should be challenging for the conference title by 2032.

I'm relieved and happy. I have no illusions like "we've turned the corner" or "See, Fox is a good coach", but we played pretty well and got the win. It was nice. I can enjoy a win, in and of itself. As a long-time Cal fan, sometimes I enjoy a win even more when it's a rarity. I know I will be coming down to earth again sometime soon, but I need to take this day to enjoy it. (When it happens in football, I take the whole week!)

I'm assuming you're joking, but realistically, if I actually thought we would be challenging for a conference title in 10 years, I wouldn't be AS vocal about wanting a new coach. I don't see Fox ever getting close to challenging for a title though. It's only going to get worse each year as his antiquated authoritarian style becomes less and less appealing to each generation of youth.

there are some names when mentioned, I just can't ignore. Coleman is one of them.

I was sometimes just amazed how he would just charge the basket with no apparent plan, wildly throwing up shots around multiple set defenders ... and score

as frustrating as it was to have him on our team, I was entertained at times

As for Lucas, yeah, he was taking some really tough leaning sideways fall away shots with his legs kicked out sideways, but I credit Joel's defense for that

For Coleman, all you need to do was stand in front of the basket for the charge

If only Cal could win some of the close games, the season would be viewed as successful. A few bounces is all the difference. The performance in the absence of Kelly is admirable.

I will say that Roberson knows how to finish. It does not seem like he has an outside shot, but he can get to the rim and finish in a very smooth fashion.

So we have three guys Roberson, Shepherd (because I think he's limited by his hand injury) and Brown who are good at going to the rim pretty proficiently but that's really their game. Not a surprise that UW's zone can basically shut us down.

Anyway, glad to get a W. Any win is good. Happy for the players and coaches.
