Happy 7th anniversary of Cal last making the NCAA tournament. Especially depressing, you can still watch a surprising number of former Bears who didn't like the trajectory of the program. Rooting for Matt Bradley, Charlie Moore, Conner Vanover, and Justice Sueing (watching from the bench).

Thanks for depressing me by reminding me that the last time we made the dance was that damm Hawaii game.

Vanover, Kelly, Sueing, Bradley and Moore would have been a nice starting 5.

What do you make of the fact that Vanover and Sueing transferred and are sitting and not playing? Was that a good decision for them?

Sueing is a starter and is the team captain but had a season ending injury early.

He was very happy at Cal, was the team's high scorer and was PAC-12 All-Academic.

Vanover now has 3 pigtails and he is going to be raining down treys at The Dance.

Had seen that Sueing was not playing minutes recently at Ohio State but didn't know of the injury. Thanks

I love(d) hating him but this year I am all in rooting for Duke. I would be amazing for Coach K. and he really has been the greatest coach of his generation (and a remarkable feat of essentially building a program and elevating an academic brand through it).

Matt Bradley had a very poor performance, particularly late, for SDSU in his lone tourney game.

He shot 5 for 16 including 0 for 5 from deep.

Worse, he missed the front end of a one and one with seven seconds left in regulation, with the score tied. In overtime, up 2 with two minutes to go, he made only one of two free throws and later missed a shot.

Then, on the last possession, down 2, he lost the ball with about a second to go. He didn't get a shot off. Creighton recovered it and hit a free throw to ice it.

Woof.

Well, he's 1 for 13 and only played 6 minutes this calendar year, so......it might be tough.

I guess he's eying the portal.

I also saw that Bradley was the on ball defender when the Creighton guy drove past him for an and-1. Bradley was caught checking to his right instead of his man, who took that opportunity to blow past toward the bucket. Doom.

We don't expect perfection. But poor Bradley.

I had seen the game was close, tuned in, and saw him make multiple goofs, and the L.

Payton Willis 6'4" G for University of Minnesota.

Vanderbilt to Minnesota to Univ. of Charleston to Minnesota.

Decent player, not the best attitude.

I follow the Golden Gophers (4 - 17 in the Big Ten) ...,,,A Bear/Gopher BB game probably
would have been close but real ugly.

Well confident one....It happened this year in the PAC-12.

Both Gach played his first three years at Utah. Left and played at Minnesota last year. Came back to Utah this season. Evidently players transferring in to Minnesota don't like it better from whence they came.

I argued with a dozen people on this site that Sueing was better than Vanover.

Can we now confirm that I won the argument? I understand that Vanover is a unique player. However, Sueing was underrated at Cal and is simply better. The problem he had at Cal is we had too many slashers and it made Sueing look like an average Joe.

You're correct.

The Gophers were a mess in 20-21 (Richard Pitino's final year) and this past season under inexperienced Ben
Johnson. (Dennis Gates was a rumored candidate).

NOTE: In the final game ....a 51 - 60 loss to a bad Penn State team.....4 guys played 40 minutes
and another 39:30. Folks on the Gopher board. were very open to the possibility that a couple
of players refused to go in the game....

But... for Gopher fans...there's always football.

I was mad at Sueing for leaving (smart move, however) and I never liked his on court demeanor. With that said, I always thought he was a baller and it hurt us when he left. Vanover, on the other hand, with all due respect to Big C (that phrase is always a prelude to something bad) was a one trick pony and very few teams can afford the luxury of that type of player. I would have paid for his airfare OUTA HERE!

At 7'3" he'd probably need some special seating - might have cost a fortune.

LOL, now you would have paid him to leave? Congrats, you got me going again on this!

Sueing the sophomore was clearly a better basketball player than Vanover, who was a freshman.

What I said about Vanover was that he improved enormously over the course of his freshman season, like I had never seen happen before. At the beginning, his minutes were limited because he struggled to even get up and down court. By a dozen games in, he could play ten minutes at a time, but was a huge defensive liability (literally). His last several games, he was actually helping us out there and had learned to conceal the weaker parts of his game.

By his last game against Stanfurd (or one of his last games, I forget), he was really turning into something. I was there; I am a season ticketholder; I saw it with my own eyes. Or, you could look at how his stats progressed throughout the year.

Reportedly, Vanover had a good relationship with Wyking Jones. Heck, in retrospect, maybe we should have kept Jones (instead of what we did): His contract would've been up right now and we would've saved a bundle.

Going to Arkansas was a terrible basketball decision for Vanover. His game is not suited to Musselman's style, I guess. Furthermore, just looking at him now, he seems to have struggled with injury or not done his full share of S & C, which a 7-3 guy really needs.

Maybe he is a happy individual, being back in his home state. Who knows?

Sueing is a good all-around player. Were he healthy and a Bear, he would've been far and away our best player (after Kelly went down... maybe even before). Instead, we are bereft of players with any combination of talent and skill.

…and we really could have used Charlie Moore based on how he played today but maybe even Charlie couldn't have stopped the power of Wyking's horribleness.

Vanover and Arkansas v. the Zags in the Sweet 16 at the Chase Center in SF. Let's give him a warm Cal welcome.

Charlie is also in and playing well and his Miami team has Iowa State next.

Vanover, aka The One that got away.

Big C is trying to broker a deal for him in the Lichtenstein G League.

Losing Charlie Moore hurt more than losing Bradley since Moore improves the games of multiple players.

Not sure, but my understanding is that he is pretty much not part of the shortened rotation by the end of the season.

In keeping with our self loathing, a jersey retirement and Key to Haas ceremony at Chase center court somehow feels entirely appropriate to me (with Big C officiating, naturally).
