Serious question:
If a poll were taken with a group of recruits and they were to rank the factors in their school decision-making, where would location in the country rank?
I see:
-Playing time
-Connection to coaches
-Playing style
-NBA path
-NIL(for a select few)
-Teammates
-Facilities
-Hype factor of school(Crowds, media coverage...)
(Not saying I agree with these priorities.)
Location, for many of these recruits, is low down the list in my opinion.
Agreed. Location is in "All other things being equal category". More importantly, there is little the coaching staff or AD can do (other than take advantage) to change it. Most things on your list CAN be affected or at least influenced. I would add Academic reputation to your list, near the bottom, just above location and below culinary environment and far below coed friendliness.
The other part of the poll probably needs to include parents rankings as well.
I think you have to add tradition/name and chances of making the NCAA Tournament.
Location and campus matter. Think about when you applied for school, it was probably: 1. Academics 2. Location and campus 3. Cost. For top athletes it is just that their sport is #1 replacing academics and cost is not an issue.
Cal has a much better basketball history, name and location than WSU. We have had far more top recruits in our history than they have, for a reason.
Agree - Tradition, chances of making NCAA Tournament, connection to staff,Facilities,Location, playing style,NIL opportunities, housing (parents weigh in often on this) - at the top and then - yes " coed quality" ( its a common complaint amongst the bball and football guys - not sure where that factor ranks though). Academics a lower factor - I usually get the response that it weighed in less than the above criteria. .
Jalen still on crutches and had a pretty heavy setback with the ACL and meniscus tear and a stretch to the MCL - likely not able to be back to normal until Feb/March. Marsalis Roberson recently had some minor scar tissue removal and thus knee surgery and will be fine in a month. Hyder feeling really good and hopefully now that he is healthy, will be much improved. Joel Brown - healthy/recovered from past month minor knee surgery and will be improved. All on campus except the 6' 9" incoming freshman, due to visa issues that should be resolved over the next couple of weeks. Team will be quicker and more athletic - not sure if they can protect the rim, shoot from outside consistently and limit offensive rebounding of the opposing team. Losing Kelly is a big loss - others that graduated/out of eligibility, not so much. At some point would be interesting to have our annual W/L prediction /conf finish forecasting. For me too early to peg a finish, but gut says double digit finish in conf.
