We have so many alums in athletics administration and sports management, both at the college and professional level.

Can you tell us more about your conversation?

Going in I had no idea who we were meeting with. I logged in a few minutes late.
Our CEO introduced me to Al as his co-founder and mentioned that I'm a CAL grad. Al then asked when I graduated and that he did so in 1997.
I still had no idea he was Al Grisby.
It wasn't until I put my cursor over his video image and his names popped up that I realized who I was meeting with.

So I said something along the lines of - Al Grisby, you were my favorite player all 9 years you were at CAL. Obviously joking about the fact that he was on the team for 6 years.
We talked about a few of the players from that time - Murray, Kidd, Buckley, etc
I mentioned that I saw on social media that there were a number of basketball alums that I recently visited the team for some sort of function. He knew nothing about it.
He did mention that Stevie Johnson ( also a CAL player from that era ) also works at Seattle University in the athletic dept. I asked if he was still rail thin. Apparently he's not.

Al ended the meeting with a resounding GO BEARS! I ended it with **** Stanfurd. Well, I actually didn't say that but I should have. I'm meeting him in person next Tuesday, I say it then.

Did you ask him why they unretired his number? Or did they? I am not sure what the status of that is since I haven't been back at Haas in a while. He was part of our last Sweet 16 in 1997, which is a great memory (near upset of Vinsanity and UNC) and pathetic at the same time that we haven't been able to get past the first weekend of the NCAAs going on 26 years.
