I don't see another game Cal can win left on the schedule. Has a Pac team ever gone winless in modern times?

Eastern Washington & UT Arlington are the only beatable teams left. Maybe we pull off 1 upset in-conference if OSU comes to Haas and has an off night.

No team in D1 history has lost more than 30 games. The worst winless season in D1 history was '07-'08 NJIT who went 0-29. There have been a couple teams to go 1-30. If we indeed do go winless we will be the worst D1 basketball team of all time by record, ending up at 0-32. If we win 1 game we will still hold the record for most losses in a season, ending up at 1-31.

Regardless, we are going to set a record for most losses by a power conference program in D1 history. We aren't good enough to avoid that certainty.

Going back to 1978-79, when the conference expanded to 10 teams and the basketball schedule was first 18 games (we're now in the third year of a 20 game conference schedule), I believe Oregon St. in 2007-08 (coached by our own Jay John) was the only team to go 0-18. And they went 6-7 OOC.

While Cal is going to be the underdog in every conference game (except maybe Oregon St. at Haas), the odds are that we'll win at least one conference game. The Bears can play some defense, and if the opposition has an off night from 3 and Cal is hitting from 3, and the opposition isn't in the top half of the conference, the Bears could pull one off.

Even if the Bears have played horribly against cream puffs so far, odds of picking up at least one against Eastern Washington or UT Arlington (and who knows, maybe even at Santa Clara if things break right) are pretty good.

Now, if we end up 2-30 after losing in the Pac-12 tournament, it will still be the worst season in major conference history (I'm assuming Louisville won't beat us out this year), and by far the worst season in Pac-12 history. Major conference teams always schedule some cream puffs, and horrible teams like the 07-08 Beavers can still go 6-7 in conference. The Bears had 6 cream puffs on the OOC schedule (and I'm not counting Santa Clara as a cream puff). I would have expected the Bears to lose one of those, likely go 5-6 in non-conference play this year, certainly no worse than 4-7, even if I thought they could go 0-20 in conference. But even if things start coming together, we'll be 3-8 at best, with 2-9 most likely but 0-11 possible. We're definitely on pace for historically bad.

I'm not sure how many we need to win to avoid the title of worst season in major conference history, but it is certainly more than 2.

No, otherwise Wyking Jones wouldn't have the school record of -16 in a row.

Jones did win the last three regular season games including beating a ranked UW team once he finally figured out who his starting five should be.

Fox lost a record 17 PAC-12 games two years ago (before Knowlton extended him). Will he break his own record?

That won't help, covid has been over for a couple of years and the football team still uses covid as an excuse...cal for some strange reason was the only team affected by covid. Lol

Rooting for the players but Mark Fox has done a horrible job of assembling a D2 team, much less a power conference D1 team, and he does not coach them up well either. His yelling at them as if it is their fault and yelling will make them better just makes me dislike him more. Plus the fact he makes $2 million a year to give us this.
